1. Set up the materials on a table or small rug in
order to outline the area for the activity.
2. Place the floor and show the child how to do it:
say: "I am going to sort the counters."
3. Choose a counter, place it in the matching
coloured cup.
4. Then find each identical coloured counter and
place them one by one into the cup.
When you have finished, pause, look at the cup
and say: "All the red counters are in the red cup."

5. Then choose another counter and continue the
activity in the same way until all the counters are
shared between the cups. You can start with 3
cups, for example the 3 primary colours: yellow,
red, blue. Then increase the number of cups the
next time you do this activity.
