ALIGNI'ENT
Blower/€xhausler
and motor aro properly lined up at the tac1ory, but MUST BE CHECKED alt6r machjne is
positioned ard piping conneclions made.
DIRECT DRIVE
A dial irdbalo, is lhe b€sl device lor checking alignment. For most couplings a straighl €dgo may be used on
@ and sire ot coupling (holding a light or pieco of white paper behind the couplino will help). Raise o.lower
notor by shim adiustmenl, or shifl sideways to remove bolh parallel and anoular misalionment,
In machines
capabl€ ol ov€r 5.0 PSIG ditl€rential pressurs, the heal ol operalion will cause enough erpansion lo produc€
nisalignmgnl. To compensate,
shim the rnotor so that the driven end ol the blower/exhausl€r
shalt end will
b€ aboul 0.015- low when cold. Realign coupling again alter one to two hours ol operation when machine
t€rperalure has siabilized. The betle.lhe alignmenl the longerthe lile ot the bearings and coupling.
R@mmended dislarrc€ b€hre€n the driver and driven shafts rusl be maintained. Follow coupling inslruc-
fFns wilen incbd€d.
BELT DFIVE
Shoavss and bells musl be clean and dry. Do nol apply beh dressing. For maximum bslt and bearing lit€,
sheavgs must be in good alignrn€nl and bets must bg under poper tension.
Check alignm€d with draight edge or cord across the faces ol both sheaves. This should show square
contacl on boih sheavEs if thsy are parallol ard with behs running al rigl[ ar€les lo the shall,
Us6 tensbmster lor determining propor belt lension. Belts ihat are too tight cause a sharp decr€ase in
boaring and b€lt lile. ll too loos€, they will slip, lail prematurely and decrease rnachins perfonnance due lo
rcdrc€d sp€€d. Belts may siretch sli0hlly when firsl placed in service. Th€relore, check belt lension alter lhe
machinE has operatod a lsw days. Belt lension should also bs checked periodically
lhoughout th6 lito of lhe
drivo. lf 19fi oul at servica tor a lenothy period, all lension should be removed lrom the belt9.
Whon r€placlm bells, rnovs the motor lowad lh6 machine. Never lorc€ a belt over a sheav6. ll replacing a
fluhble b€lt ddve, replace allbells with a matched set.
