  • Page 4 Ethernet Network (including network cables and a switch) E) System Overview COLDSTORE Compact is a hard disk array system specifically designed for video surveillance storage. It uses our LAID sequential writing system, our SFS sequential disk filing system and custom-designed hardware and firmware to achieve a high-capacity, high-reliability, very low power system ideally suited to surveillance storage.
  • Page 5 ON/OFF switch. The system is powered and unpowered by connecting and disconnected the power jack. Follow the steps below before powering up as instructed. The full control of the system using COLDSTORE Manager is not covered in this Quick Start Guide – see COLDSTORE User’s Guide. H) Disk Loading The disk drive slots are accessed by unscrewing the front panel.
  • Page 6 As COLDSTORE Compact boots, all of the green disk LEDs will illuminate (whether there is a disk present in that slot or not), indicating that the system is booting up. After boot is complete, the green LEDs will go out and the Compact will begin the disk check sequence.
  • Page 7 COLDSTORE Compact unit should be automatically detected on the network and displayed on the list in the left hand window. Click on the COLDSTORE Compact unit 10.0.0.140 (default factory IP address setting) to select the unit.   • Page 8 If the COLDSTORE Compact is not automatically detected, you may manually enter the IP address of the COLDSTORE by right-clicking in the list window and entering the IP address of the device in the dialogue box which appears. If this does not work for any reason, see Troubleshooting.
  • Page 9 Once the settings have been entered, click on Update to store the settings on COLDSTORE Compact. For full details on how to use COLDSTORE Manager, see the online help file or the COLDSTORE Compact User’s Guide. M) Disk Management – Adding & Removing Disks Further disks may be added to the array at any time, and these may be added with the system either on or off.
  • Page 10 COLDSTORE Compact does not appear in the COLDSTORE Manager list Open a Command Line window on the client PC and ping the COLDSTORE IP address. If there is no response, check the network and the client PC network settings.
