ACHINE We wish you every success with the M Your SOUND PERFORMANCE LAB-Team I would like to start with my thanks to all our staff, who created what is to be described here. Special thanks go to Kai Lukas from Lukas &...
Introduction Creating authentic tape saturation effects. The sound becomes warmer and more powerful, elimina- ting the harshness of digital recordings. Precise reproduction of: - tape saturation effect - hysteresis effect - harmonic characteristic - linear and non linear trans- mission characteristic Modified reproduction of: - level behaviour - high frequency damping...
Indicators and meters: is equipped with PPM displays for input and ACHINE output levels. The first LED of each input and output meter is a signal (S .) LED which illuminates when a compatible digital data stream is present at the inputs. The LEDs are a first indi- cator to check the data stream.
Connections Before connecting the M ACHINE all connected units. The rear panel provides AES/EBU- and S/P-DIF-inputs and outputs. Any additional channel, status and user-bits are passed through unaltered, and the outputs can be used at the same time if required. The M operates with 24 bit word width.
All controls are in the start-off positions: 0, D 0, HF-A NPUT RIVE 0, T UTPUT PEED Press A . LED illuminates. CTIVE Increase the D -value to saturate the “virtual” tape. RIVE Set D to about 6. If the output level increases, use RIVE the O control to compensate for the increase.
Control Elements Active Relay hard-bypass for AES/EBU input and output Input Gain Drive Setting the recording level of the ‘virtual tape machine’ The A function switches the M CTIVE illuminated LED indicates that the processing has been activated. The software bypass also compensates for the 5ms time delay between processed and unprocessed signal.
The higher the D the more intense gets the saturation of RIVE the tape. While increasing the D increase, too. Compensate for this by reducing the O value (see 5) and monitor the O tively the perceived loudness will increase more dramatic than the actual PPM value! Recommended values are 3 to 8 for the D which corresponds with +10 dB to +15 dB for the actual D...
Output Gain Compensating a level and/or loudness increase due to processing High Tape Speed Gaining a finer high frequency resolution when selecting H PEED LC-display LED chains varies the output level of the digital data stream. UTPUT It is variable between -12 dB and +12 dB in 0.1 dB steps. The adjusted O UTPUT (see 7) and in the O...
The D metering shows the recording level of the RIVE EVEL “virtual tape machine”. The display range is -10 dB to +21 dB. The D ist adjusted with the D RIVE EVEL The O PPM meters show the peak level after the O UTPUT control (see 5).
Info Depressing S and A TORE second gets you into a hardware dialogue, called I display shows status informations of the digital data stream. With U you will jump from one page to the next or previous. If a selection is provided use A Software version and date Selecting inputs: The M...
