Both modes include the ability to set a global fade time between DMX levels, and to select between linear and S-curve dimming curves. The initials “PD” printed on the panels of the PD2DMX-512D as well as throughout this guide is abbreviated notation for “Pyrodigital®”. The term “Field Controller”...
Pyrodigital® to DMX Converter - Model PD2DMX-512D Setup Connection The PD2DMX-512D is connected to a PD network using three conductor interconnect cables with male and female 3-pin XLR connectors at either end typically used with PD equipment. PD2DMX-512D and Pyrodigital®...
Setting The PD Address Range The PD2DMX-512D differs from other PD modules in that it emulates more than one PD module. To a PD Field Controller, the PD2DMX-512D can appear as many modules. The rotary switches normally used to set the module address on standard PD modules is instead used to set the Maximum module address the PD2DMX-512D will respond to.
PD module address 13 controls DMX channel 20 Important: When using the PD2DMX-512D in a network with other PD modules, do not set any other PD2DMX or PD module addresses to the same or lower address than the Maximum Address set on the PD2DMX-512D or they will conflict.
The LED is intended to provide a variety of information about the status and operation of the PD2DMX-512D. However, there may be instances when the PD2DMX-512D module is visible to an audience and a flickering or blinking LED may present a visual distraction. In those instances, the activity of the LED may be set to occur only very infrequently.
Pyrodigital® to DMX Converter - Model PD2DMX-512D Operation Power-Up Self Test On power-up, the module illuminates the LED to indicate it is receiving power, and is performing a self test. (Note: This start up process may take up to 6 seconds.) If the module finds anything wrong with its basic functions, it completely ceases operation, leaving the LED lit red solidly.
Pyrodigital® modules. There are two modes of operation which control how the PD2DMX-512D translates PD “Fire” commands to DMX output levels. The following are examples of how to program the Field Controller to interact with the PD2DMX-512D’s two modes.
Pyrodigital® to DMX Converter - Model PD2DMX-512D Mode 1 Operation: In Mode 1, the PD2DMX-512D allows up to 512 DMX channels to be set either to 100% (DMX output at full) or 0% (DMX output at 0). This is achieved by utilizing the 16 output terminals per module address in pairs.
Pyrodigital® to DMX Converter - Model PD2DMX-512D Mode 2 Operation: In Mode 2, the PD2DMX-512D maps each PD module address to one DMX address (see Appendix D for the Mode 2 DMX channel to PD address mapping). Each PD terminal corresponds to a particular DMX output value.
2/3, 4/5, etc) which correspond to eight DMX channels (see Appendix C for the full DMX channel to PD address/terminal pair mapping.) Checking status on a module being controlled by a PD2DMX-512D will show continuity on either the even or odd pair terminal for each DMX channel to indicate whether the DMX output is at 0% or 100%.
It is possible that the fault condition may be temporary, and powering the module off and back on may reset it. If power cycling does not clear the fault, replace the module and send the faulted one back to Reality Enhancements, Inc. for diagnosis. Operation...
Opening the Case to Set Feature Switches There are two “DIP” Switches located on the circuit board which may be set to configure the User Selectable features of the PD2DMX-512D. These switches are labeled Options 1 and Options 2. These options are intended to be set and changed infrequently.
Pyrodigital® to DMX Converter - Model PD2DMX-512D Options 1 switch Switch # Function Setting On: Full function: When on, the LED lights at power up and any time data is received from the field controller. Off: Minimal: LED function The LED will only flash briefly during...
The drawing in figure E-3 shows control of a variety of DMX devices which utilize different numbers of DMX channels. In this application, the PD2DMX-512D module is set to Mode 2 which allocates one PD module address per DMX address, and allows 16 level proportional control of the DMX channel levels.
