Infrared Thermometer The MS6530 The MS6530 is a type of high precision temperature measuring device know as an Infrared Non Contact Thermometer. There are many situations where contact with the object is undesirable, should be avoided or is simply not possible. For example, where surfaces are hazardous or are moving, where hygiene is an issue, where things are dangerous or inaccessible, in continuous industrial processes, and so on.

  • Page 7: Operating Principle

Infrared Thermometer Operating principle All surfaces emit thermal radiation. The type and amount of this energy can be used to determine the surface temperature of the object. The MS6530 detects radiation at infrared frequencies, in a narrow band from 8 to 14 micrometres, and focusses it onto a sensor. An internal microprocessor calculates and displays the temperature on an LCD screen.

Infrared Thermometer size (S). The ratio between these values is fixed at 12:1. For example at 1metre the spot size is 84millimetres wide, at 1.5 metres the spot size is 125millimetres. For accurate readings the target should be larger than the visual spot size and should fill the field of view as indicated by the laser dots.
