Inspecting the Monitor
The PackTite Passive monitor should be inspected at least monthly. In high traffic
environments, such as hotel rooms, hostels, guesthouses, hospitals, etc., it is
recommended that the monitor be inspected more frequently, as often as once a week.
To inspect the PackTite Passive Monitor, follow these simple steps.
• Inspect the detection area. Note any dark spots on the white border.
• Use a flashlight to examine the harborage area. Note that bed bugs may reside in
any of the open spaces, and can vary in size from 1 to 5 millimeters.
• Scan the area surrounding the monitor for other signs of bed bug activity. This
may include fecal spotting, cast skins or live insects.
If there is uncertainty regarding the source of marks on the monitor, we recommend the
use of a Bed Bug Blue Fecal Spot detection kit. This test will provide a conclusive result
and is invaluable in distinguishing bed bug spotting from other marks. More information
about the kit can be found by clicking
Early detection is key to eliminating bed bug infestations before the problem has an
opportunity to grow and spread. If any sign of bed big activity is observed on the
monitor, the entire unit should be isolated in an airtight bag and disposed of. While the
PackTite Passive is not intended to eliminate or treat a bed bug infested area, in some
cases it may be possible to prevent an infestation by simply removing a monitor
containing a small number on insects before they have chance to reproduce and
spread.
If any sign of bed bug activity is found, a pest control professional should be contacted
immediately to evaluate an area and create a treatment strategy if deemed necessary.
