    Canrig PC3000-26 Automated Power Catwalk The PC3000-26 (Figures 3-1 and 3-2) is designed to move tubulars between the pipe rack area and the drilling floor. It consists of Catwalk, ramp, carrier assembly, and a series of tubular handling devices. The Catwalk is controlled by a PLC through controls on a control console or from a wireless terminal.

    PC3000 with 26" Deck (PC3000-26) User’s Manual Safety Pins Three safety pins (Figure 3-5) on each side of the carrier are actuated by hydraulic cylinders. The safety pins prevent tubulars from rolling across the carrier when loading, or rolling out of the carrier when the carrier is being raised or lowered.

    Figure 3-6: Kickers Skate The skate (Figure 3-7, page 3-8) runs the length of the carrier and is powered by a hydraulic winch and cable. The skate is operated from the control console or the wireless terminal. Canrig Drilling Technology Ltd.

    The carrier lift winch is operated from the control console or from the wireless terminal. The speed of the carrier travel is PLC-controlled throughout its range, preventing damage to the carrier or lift arm during operation. If upon inspection, a cable is found to be defective (kinked, frayed, or otherwise damaged), corrective action should be immediately taken. Lower the carrier to a safe position and replace the bad cable prior to using the carrier again.

  • Page 59: Lower Tubulars From Drilling Floor

    Prior to releasing the tubular from the elevators, bring the skate forward to support the tubular so it does not slide back uncontrolled and impacts (collides with) the skate. This could easily damage the skate or skate winch, and will seriously reduce the life of the skate cable. Canrig Drilling Technology Ltd.

Keep the tubulars, especially heavy ones, as close to the front end of the carrier as possible to reduce the load on the carrier-lift winch when lowering.
