  • Page 8: Electrical Safety

Electrical safety The unit has a self-contained power supply (12 Volt DC) for the electrical control and the on-board starter battery (alternator on the engine with external rectifier/charger). Risk of short circuit or electric shock ! In case of damage to the electrical system: Never touch bare wires or voltage leading components if the engine is running or the ignition is active.
  • Page 9: Emissions

When changing the battery, follow these rules: Work only with proper tools (open end wrench, size 10) For disconnecting the terminals: IMPORTANT ! Remove negative pole first (black wire) For reconnecting the terminals: Attach positive pole first (red wire) Isolate the positive terminal with the supplied plastic cover Emissions The exhaust emissions of the engine meet the requirements of the European Community.

  • Page 15: Installation And Initial Start-Up

Installation and initial start-up For maximum efficiency, we strongly recommend the combination of the MFU with a water tank of greatest possible volume. This allows further the connection of the back-flow line (bypass) with the tank. Any excess pump capacity not jetted from the gun is thereby directed back to the tank.
  • Page 16: Initial Start Up

Initial start up Pleas carry out the following preparations after complete and correct installation: 1. Fill the fuel tank (10) and check the engine oil level according to the instructions of the engine manufacturer. 2. Check the oil levels of pump (page 31, section 11.6.1) and gear (page 33, section 11.6.4).
  • Page 17: Operating

Operating Operating the MFU is simple and easy. After starting the engine, the function mode is selectable by a single push of a button. The engine features:  start automatic (automatic choke)  electromechanical power control (no throttle)  automatic fuel valve (no gasoline cock) ...
  • Page 18: Water Level Control

Water level control The pump is protected against dry running by water level control in the intake tract. Any main function is only activatable with sufficient water supply. If the intake tract is empty, the system automatically shuts down the engine and the red Override button (2) is flashing. The flashing vanishes, after the tank is refilled with enough water.
  • Page 19: Deactivating The Mfu

Deactivating the MFU 1. Press STANDBY (5) if another function is still active. The button lights up and the engine switches to idle speed. 2. Turn the ignition switch (4) left. The engine stops, the whole system is inactive. 3. Actuate the jet gun to relieve residual pressure. Before shutting off, we strongly recommend cooling down the engine at idling speed for about two minutes.
  • Page 20: Hose Reel

Hose reel To unroll the hose, take the jet gun from its holder and pull the hose as needed (up to 28 meters) from the reel. The hose reel locks itself at standstill and unlocks again by a short pull. It has an automatic recoil spring, which greatly helps rolling up the hose again. We recommend cleaning the hose during reeling up.
  • Page 21: Turbo Jet Gun

Turbo jet gun The MFU is equipped with a high-power jet gun, which is adapted to pressure and flow rate of the diaphragm pump. This allows for optimum range and performance. The jet shape ranges from compact beam to spray mode and is adjustable steplessly.

Jetting operation with (filled) water tank  Set the ball valve lever at the rear into tank position  Turn on the ignition (3)  Push the START button (4)  If possible, let the engine warm up (ca. two minutes) ...
  • Page 23: Cleaning The Filter

Cleaning the filter The intake manifold of the system is equipped with a filter, which holds back sand and finest dirt particles from pump and valves. If external water has been used, the filter insert must be cleaned prior to the actual flushing. If only clean water from the tank was used, proceed to section 8.2 (below).

  • Page 26: Safety Valve And Pressure Adjustment

10.3 Safety valve and pressure adjustment The integrated safety valve protects the system from excessive pressure and therefore controls the diversion of water into the bypass circle. Its setting is precisely adjusted and must not be changed normally. However, in case of unsatisfactory performance, check and adjust it if necessary.
  • Page 27: The High-Pressure System

10.4 The high-pressure system All high pressure hoses, especially the fire hose, are wearing parts with limited lifetime. Depending on the severity of working conditions, replace them at appropriate intervals, even with no visible defects. At the latest, they must be replaced when the following signs of wear and tear are noticed: ...
  • Page 28: Electrical Troubleshooting

10.5 Electrical troubleshooting For reliability and durability, the electrical system is as simple and robust as possible. There is no electronics; all switching devices are water- and dust protected. In case of electrical fault, check the following fuses: A blown fuse is identified by a molten wire inside the fuse body.

  • Page 31: Diaphragm Pump

Diaphragm pump 11.6 The pump is able for suction and may be located above the water source. The maximum suction lift is approximately two meters. If no other source is available, even seawater can be used if the whole system is rinsed thoroughly afterwards. Seawater strongly expedites corrosion, dried salt crystals harm rubber, paint and all surfaces ! ATTENTION...
