  • Page 2 The FireStar XP Wi-Fi Module is a remote display for the FireStar II electronic controller. It has the ability to setup its own wi-fi network to send and receive data from another wi-fi enabled device like a laptop, tablet or smartphone. The FireStar XP can be connected to an existing wi-fi network like your home’s, if you have one.

    NOTE: In order for your smartphone or other wi-fi device to see the FireStar XP, it will have to be within range of the XP module. 3. Select the wireless network that begins with FIRESTAR_ and connect to it.

  • Page 10 Enter Your Wi-Fi Password 1. Using the keypad on the FireStar XP, press and hold the key until #1 is displayed. 2. Press the keypad key until #14 is displayed. 3. Press the key to start entering your wi-fi network password.

    NOTE: You must have a high-speed internet connection in your home and a wireless router in order to take full advantage of the FireStar XP’s online features. To create a user account, go to MyFireStar.com and create a new user account. Once you create your account, you will receive an email with a confirmation link.

    DASHBOARD This is where you get a quick glimpse of the current status of your outdoor furnace. Furnace The unique name of your outdoor furnace. Mode Displays the operational state of the outdoor furnace or any alerts. For example, this message could be High, Idle, Pulse (to indicate there has been a pulse of air delivered) or Setpoint Reached (to indicate the water temperature setpoint has been reached).
  • Page 14 Reaction Chamber Outlet Temp Shows the temperature reading at the outlet of the Reaction Chamber. Due to limitations of the temperature sensor, it is not positioned in the hottest area of the Reaction Chamber. The actual secondary combustion temperature may be over 1000˚F hotter than what is displayed.

    HISTORY AND CUSTOMIZING CHART VIEW The History screen shows a chart of how your furnace has operated for a date and an amount of time you determine. There are other customizable areas on the screen so you can see as much or as little information as you’d like, plus select an earlier date if you’d like.

    UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHARTS One of the most powerful tools of MyFireStar.com is the charting function that records how your outdoor furnace has been operating. With a little practice, you can recognize if your furnace is operating correctly or if there is something wrong simply by looking at your history charts.
  • Page 18 GOOD OPERATION Light Heat Load WHAT THIS CHART SHOWS – Chart will look similar to average heat load chart, but with longer rest periods between burn cycles. GOOD OPERATION Dry Wood, Heavy Heat Load WHAT THIS CHART SHOWS – Note the very tight or close burn cycles as the water temperature drops quickly due to heat demand.
  • Page 19 PROBLEM OPERATION Deep Coal Bed WHAT THIS CHART SHOWS – Air flow issues are the result of improper maintenance. If there is an air flow issue, the Reaction Chamber temperatures will be lower and erratic, and often the Reaction Chamber temperatures will not rise over 600˚F - 800˚F.
  • Page 20 PROBLEM OPERATION Plugged Primary Elbow WHAT THIS CHART SHOWS – The chart reveals another air flow issue, this time created by a creosote buildup in the primary elbow. Notice the flat, low Reaction Chamber temperatures and the long recovery times for the water temperature.
  • Page 21 PROBLEM OPERATION Incorrect Installation of Pump or Water Lines WHAT THIS CHART SHOWS – If a pump is installed backwards in your system, or if your water lines are reversed, it will cause the water in the system to boil. Additionally, high limit alarms will go off and it will shut down your furnace.

    ACCOUNT SETTINGS SCREEN The Account Settings screen is used for changing your password, time zone, email address, furnaces and furnace alerts.

    FIRESTAR XP DISPLAY OPERATION The keypad and LED display on your FireStar XP can be used to view information and to make changes to some settings. When no keys are pressed, the LED display will alternate between the outdoor furnace water temperature and the temperature in the Reaction Chamber outlet.

    There are five variables (#1 through #4 and #6) affecting outdoor furnace operation that can be changed using the FireStar XP keypad. Variable #7 is a diagnostic function that can also be enabled. Variables #8 and above are used to display information or for entering information regarding the FireStar XP that do not affect the operation of the outdoor furnace.
  • Page 28 4. Enable Celsius: 0 This variable determines if temperature is displayed in Fahrenheit (set to 0) or Celsius (set to 1). NOTE: Any time this variable is changed, the settings for Water Temperature Setpoint and Water Temperature Differential will reset to default values. 6.
  • Page 29 8. Internet Upload Frequency: 10 Sets the number of minutes between data uploads when a FireStar XP is connected to the outdoor furnace and to the internet. Set this variable to a lower number for more frequent updates and more detailed graphing.

    If you had problems connecting your FireStar XP, try the possible solutions provided below. I followed the Connect to Wi-Fi Network section but I don’t see the FireStar XP when I scan for available networks. Is the FireStar II controller on the outdoor furnace powered...
  • Page 34 (consisting of both letters and numbers). Special characters that can be entered with the FireStar XP keypad are limited to “ @ - _ . / + ”. If your passphrase contains special characters unavailable on the FireStar XP, you will need to change your passphrase.
