6. Mount Fan Assembly
Using four pre-drilled holes in the tandem whole
house fan flange, secure the fan assembly to the
ceiling joists and framing with included fasteners.
The installation should allow a 24" (61cm) clearance
for a fully open exhaust door, vertically and horizon-
tally at the hinged side of the door (Figure 5).
7. Make Electric Connections
At the home's breaker box, turn off electrical power
to the circuit associated with the fan. DO NOT turn
on the power to this circuit until installation is com-
plete. In the attic, remove the cover plate from the
fan's electrical junction box. Insert the source power
cable into the fan junction box through the cable con-
nector provided. Connect the black wire from the
power supply to the fan's black wire. Connect the
white wire from the power supply to the fan's white
wire. Connect the ground wire from the power sup-
ply to the fan's green wire (Figure 6). Firmly secure
all wire connections with included wire nuts. Push all
wire connections into the fan's junction box and
install the cover plate. Replace all previously existing
insulation around the newly installed whole house fan.
CAUTION: Installing electrical power supply to the fan
requires a high level of electrical knowledge. If you
are not experienced at installing residential electrical
wiring or are not familiar with national and local elec-
trical codes, contact a qualified electrician to com-
plete the installation.
8. Install the Grill
From the hallway side of the opening, center the grill
over the opening and fasten the grill to the sheetrock
using the included white-head screws. The screws
must go through the sheetrock and penetrate the
ceiling joists and framing, ensuring the grill is secure-
ly attached (Figure 7). If you cannot penetrate the
joists or framing, utilize the included plastic sheetrock
anchors. To install a sheetrock anchor, gently tap the
anchor into the appropriate hole until it is flush to the
ceiling surface.
9. Operate Fan
Open all windows and interior doors of rooms that
you would like to your Tandem Whole House Fan to
ventilate. Be sure the flues of all fireplaces are
closed. To start tandem the fan, press the on/off but-
ton on the wireless remote control. Press the speed
button to toggle between low or high-speed opera-
tion. Press the "timer" button on the remote control
to activate the 4-hour timer. There will be two audi-
ble beeps to let you know the timer feature is active.
To turn the timer feature off, simply press the timer
button again. There will be a single audible beep sig-
naling the timer is off.
