Operating Instructions for ClassicLine / PremiumLine Eye Showers
ATTENTION! For new installations the water system must be rinsed out before connecting the shower in order
to avoid contaminants damaging the valve. Complaints resulting from pipes which have not been rinsed will not
be accepted.
1. Application
Eye showers are prescribed first aid installations for workplaces where hazardous substances are handled. These
are used for flushing out the eyes or for deglazing and decontaminating visual fields of people in emergency si-
tuations.
2. Standards and Regulations
B-SAFETY eye showers meet DIN EN 15154-2:2006, ANSI Z358.1-2009 and the directive BGI/GUV-I 850-0 "Safe
working in laboratories - principles and guidance" of the German Association of Occupational Accident Insurance
Funds (DGUV) which is applicable in Germany. Please observe the specifications of these standards and regu-
lations and any other possible applicable regulations.
3. Important notes and guarantee
The installation, commissioning and maintenance may only be carried out by a specialist in line with instructions
provided and in accordance with legal regulations and the accepted technical rules. The technical conditions of
the local water and energy suppliers must be adhered to. Subject to change.
Work on an electrical system should in principle only be undertaken by electrical specialists when power is dis-
connected - see also the relevant accident prevention regulation, the VDE (Association of German Electricians)
regulations and the regulations of the local energy supplier.
Take appropriate measures to prevent electrostatic charges in EX environments. In particular clean any plastic
surfaces by gently wiping it with a damp or antistatic cloth.
Our liability for defects in delivery is set down in our terms of delivery. No liability is accepted for loss or damage
which occurs as a result of failure to observe the operating and maintenance instructions and the operating con-
ditions.
4. Operating pressure
B-SAFETY eye showers are designed for an operating pressure of a maximum of 10 bar (PN10).
4.1. Eye showers with one high-performance spray head
In order to guarantee faultless function, the flow pressure must be at least 1.5 bar. The volume flow is 7 litres per
minute (1.85 GPM) and it is set independently of the pending operating pressure by a flow limiter integrated in
the eye shower automatically.
4.2 Eye showers with two high-performance spray heads
In order to guarantee faultless function, the flow pressure must be at least 2 bar. The volume flow is 14 litres per
minute (3.70 GPM) and it is set independently of the pending operating pressure by a flow limiter integrated in
the eye shower automatically.
5. Water supply
B-SAFETY eye showers must be connected to the drinking water supply. The drinking water system should be
installed in accordance with DIN 1988 and DIN EN 1717. For new installations the water system must be rinsed
prior to connection of the shower in order to avoid damage to the valve through contamination.
B-SAFETY hand-held eye showers are equipped with a back flow preventer in accordance with DIN EN 1717 pro-
tection class 2 (3 for a short time). Depending on the place of use it is possible that additional on site safety in-
stallations may be required; a second back flow preventer to attain a higher protection classification can be
obtained from a specialised supplier.
B-SAFETY - Tip!
We recommend that tempered water with a temperature between 15°C and 25°C (DIN EN 15154-2:2006 = 15-
37°C, ANSI Z358.1-2009 = 16-38°C) is used for eye showers. The water supply must be guaranteed for at least
15 minutes of flush time.
6. Electrical Connection
All frostprotected heated eye showers and eye showers with electrically operated options must be connected to
the electricity network at delivery by electrical specialists with the power disconnected.
All cable entries are equipped with a thread for M20 cable entries with an entry for the incoming electrical power
supply located on the lower front side of the terminal box. The electrical power supply must be secured with a fuse
of the appropriate rating plus an RCD with max. 30 mA release current. All metallic components of the shower
system must be connected conductively with the existing potential equalisation of the system which is present.

Access must al- ways be unobstructed; there must be at least 15 cm (5.91 inch) of free space around the eye shower. The area around the shower must also be well illuminated and the shower itself must be clearly marked with easily visible signs.

Within the framework of this service the shower's closing characteristics must be examined and checks must be made to establish any leaks and contamination such as e.g.
