General notes
The sera KOI Professional 12000 Pond Filter is a multi-step purifica-
tion system designed according to newest current act filter technology
findings. The system is divided into the following steps.
Step 1: Highly effective, newly developed UV-C system (1.6)
• Reliable removal of all kinds of floating algae (cloudy, green water)
• Reduction of thread algae and other algae
• Lasting removal of pathogens and bacterial water cloudiness
The UV-C System was specially designed for garden pond purposes
and consistently developed using newest technology. The PL 55 W UV-C
lamp is operated by an electronic ballast. The UV-C system is therefore
particularly energy saving and economical.

Step 2: Mechanical water purification – sludge removal
The split sieve (1.2) removes all particles larger than 0.2 mm. The sieved
particles get into the waste water chamber (2.9) via the split sieve, and
thus are removed from the biological cycle of the pond. Particles
trapped in sponges or other media decompose slowly there and thus
are still available as a nutrient source for the biological community in the
pond.
They can be easily removed along with other remainders via the waste
water removal valve (1.15) of the waste water chamber (2.9). The residue
obtained this way can now unfold its valuable nutrients, e.g. as a gar-
den fertilizer.
Step 3: Oxygen enrichment (2.5)
The water falls through pond filter body underneath the split sieve (2.4)
where it is enriched with oxygen from the air by swirling. This allows
converting all substances that were not removed mechanically under
aerobic conditions within the following biological breakdown step.
Step 4: Fine mesh algae filtration (2.6)
The sera fine mesh filter sponge (1.3) can be placed underneath the
split sieve, as to keep the pond clear and attractive even in times of
strong floating algae growth. However, this measure should be taken
only for a limited time, mainly during summer. The kit includes two filter
sponges that should be used in an alternating way.
Step 5: Biological water purification (2.13)
The water is evenly distributed by a Matala mat above the biofilter
chamber after dirt and algae have been removed, and flows onto the
sera siporax pond filter medium below.
Due to its chemical and physical material properties, the high perform-
ance biofilter medium sera siporax pond provides an ideal living envi-
ronment for the valuable pollutant removing bio cultures. The open pore
structure ensures ideal water current conditions for the micro organ-
isms, thus ensuring the biofilms are optimally supplied and pores do not
get clogged even after years of operation. sera siporax pond biologi-
cally cleans itself! At the same time, sera siporax pond is very resistant
against wear and tear and thus allows operation times of several years.
The biological performance capacity is outstanding: A single liter (one
US quart) of sera siporax pond has the same breakdown performance
as approx. 34 liters (9 US gal.) of ceramic material. In other words: It
provides enormously high breakdown performance with very little space
requirements. Also, it requires very little maintenance and will last for a
long time!
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Attention electrical shock! All electrical units must be disconnected
from the mains/power supply before conducting work at the sera KOI
Professional 12000 Pond Filter, the UV-C lamp, the pond pump as well
as all other work in and around the pond.
Attention UV radiation! Do not look into the eye damaging light of the
UV-C lamp. Switch off the lamp before cleaning or maintenance.
