    HPUvisityourdoctorandconsultthemastoyourspecificexercise  requirements.Peoplewhohaveheartorcirculatoryproblems  andwearersofheartpacemakersshouldconsulttheirdoctor beforeusingtheSPI  HPU.DonotweartheSPI HPUforactivities  whereinjuriesarelikelytooccur.Consultingorchangingthe operatingmodeoftheSPI  HPUwhilemovingisunsafeandcould resultincollisionorotherinjury.                INFORMATION      The SPI HPU uses Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology to  measure speed and distance.The SPI HPUis not intended for use  where precise measurement of speed and distanceare required.  The GPS system is operated by the government of the United  States of America, which issolely responsiblefor its accuracy and  continued operation. The GPS system issubject to changes that  may alter the accuracy of any GPS based equipment including the  SPI HPU.      ThisQuickstartGuideis an introductionto the operationof the SPI HPU  athlete tracking unit.For more detailed informationconsultthe GPSports  Team AMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) manualsprovided  within the installation software package.      The SPI HPUcaptures and streams realtimespeed, heart rate,  distance,positionand accelerationdata on a second by second  basis.Maximum,minimumand average statistics can be reviewed for post  sessionanalysis.The SPI HPUisideallysuitedfor performanceanalysisin a  widevarietyof outdoor sportingactivities includingteam sports,  running,rowing,cyclingand orienteering.In additionthe SPI HPUcollectsdata  on “accelerations”in 3 axes @ 100 timesper second. Thisdata can be ...
  • Page 4     HowdoestheSPI HPUSystemwork?      The GPSports Systems® SPI HPUSports PerformanceIndicator  integratesGlobalPositioningSatellite(GPS), Accelerometer,Heart rate  and Wirelesstransmissiontechnologies.The SPI HPUuses  informationtransmittedfromsatellitesto determine an athlete’s speed,  position,altitudeand distancetraveled.The SPI HPUmust be operated  outdoors with a clearviewof the sky to operate correctly. The  integratedaccelerometermeasures movement and impacts.A heart rate  strap worn around the chest transmitsheart rate informationwirelesslyto  the SPI HPU.

  • Page 8     Charging    Beforethe  SPI  HPUwilloperate,theSPI  HPUmustbecharged.SPI  HPUunitsare  fullychargedwhentheyleaveourfactory,howeverpartialdischarge  oftheunitscanbeexpectedduringshipping.      TheSPI HPUSmart DockingStation shouldbeconnectedtomainspower,  usingthesuppliedPowerSupply when charging.AllSPI HPUunits sitting in the Smart Docking Station  cradleswillbecharged alternatively, 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off for 4 hours.    Eg. Cradles: 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 will charge, then cradles 2,4,6,8,10,12,14.      TochargetheSPI HPUensureitisseatedcomfortablyintoaDocking  StationCradle.      HPU units do not need to be on for charging, but the Smart Docking Station must be.    Initialchargingwilltake approximately4hours. Asinglechargewillprovidemore than  7hours ofloggingtime per SPI HPU unit.    www.gpsports.com 8of24...
