1. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The purpose of this equipment is to achieve the maximum possible information regarding the low voltage network topology. This means knowing the connectivity of each accessible point of the LV network. In this document connectivity is defined as the existing connection relationship between a network point that is being analyzed, and the MV/LV transformer substation, feeder and phase that feeds it.
1.1. Communication between CD and LD in Automatic Mode INFORMATION INFORMATION CD injects phase and CD If the network point where the LD is After receiving receives this signal number identification connected to belongs to the same phase through the sensor ring that signals through each...
2. EQUIPMENT CONTENTS Ariadna ILF12 equipment consists of: CD: Central Device that can identify up to 3 phases and 12 feeders 12 Sensor Rings (Rogowski Coils) 5 core supply cable to connect the CD to the transformer LV busbar LD: Line Device (UL-220) with graphic display. LD soft case Two cables, red (phase) and blue (neutral) to connect the device to the network points to be analyzed.
4. CENTRAL DEVICE (CD) EQUIPMENT CONNECTION Depending on the LV side of the transformer there can be different network configurations. 4.1. STAR Transformer: 3 phase + neutral LV output In this LV configuration the transformer will have a neutral cable. Depending on the network voltage it can be*: CD connection point LD connection point...
4.1.1. LD device connection point Phase-Neutral: Whenever the network point where the LD device is going to be connected, has an accessible neutral point, the working procedure to connect the CD at the transformer side should be: 4.1.1.1. Step ONE: Connect sensor rings to feeders Sensor rings must be connected checking that each ring embraces all three phases of a feeder, never the...

The connection to the network should look like the following figure:...
4.1.1.3. Step THREE: select working mode, AUTO-FN or MAN-FN modes In AUTO mode, the communication between the Central Device and the Line Device is made automatic, and takes place as described in 1.1 (Communication between CD and LD). However, there are certain network points where, due to network topology, feeder length (over 1km), noise produced by harmonics, etc., it is not possible for signals from CD to reach the network point where LD device has been connected to.

Check CD front panel LEDs: If a sensor ring has been connected to the front panel connector its corresponding LED must turn ON. Otherwise check the sensor ring’s resistance with an ohm meter. It should be within 30 to 50 ohm range. If no sensor ring has been connected to a front panel connector its corresponding LED must be OFF.
4.1.2. LD device connection point Phase-Phase: If the LD connection point has no neutral, and transformer’s LV side is B1 type (Vphase-phase 230Vac, Vphase-neutral 130Vac) the working procedure should be as in Transformer LV side in DELTA mode. Refer to section 4.2 DELTA Transformer: 3 phase LV output (no neutral)
4.2. DELTA Transformer: 3 phase LV output (no neutral) In this LV configuration the transformer will not have a neutral cable. The network voltage can be*: CD connection point LD connection point o V phase-phase: 230Vac phase-phase: 230Vac * See equipment working voltage ranges in 5. Technical Features...
4.2.1. LD device connection point Phase-Phase: Whenever the network point where the LD device is going to be connected does not have an accessible neutral point, the working procedure should be: 4.2.1.1. Step ONE: Connect sensor rings to feeders In this mode each Sensor Ring must embrace only one phase per feeder, which means that 3 rings will be needed for each feeder, always...

5. LINE DEVICE (LD) CONNECTION 5.1. Phase to Neutral network points (STAR, B1 with neutral or B2): Connect red and blue probes the following way: o RED probe to phase cable o BLUE probe to neutral. Press (ON) to turn on the LD, it must beep and show the voltage between the red and blue probe connection points.
5.2. Phase to Phase network points (DELTA or STAR B1 with no neutral available): Connect red and blue probes the following way: o RED probe to one phase o BLUE probe to another phase Press (ON) to turn on the LD, it must beep and show the voltage between the red and blue probe connection points.
6. IDENTIFICATION PROCESS 6.1. AUTO mode Press (ON) to turn on the LD, the following screen will appear: Initially the LD is in automatic mode. If it were in manual mode select automatic mode by pressing the left or right arrow button. Proceed to connect red and blue probes to the network point to be analyzed, as explained on step 5.
Page 33
The LD will display the voltage measurement and start searching for the signal injected by the CD. When working on Phase-Neutral mode (PH-N), and as phase and CD number data is received, it will be shown on the display: INFORMATION...
Page 34
When working on Phase-Phase mode (PH-PH), and as phase and CD number data is received it will be shown on the display: INFORMATION * In this example ‘PHASE: P1-P2’ will mean red probe is connected to phase 1 and blue probe to phase 2. Once the LD has received phase information it will send a signal upstream towards the transformer that will be captured by the sensor ring which corresponds to the feeder where the LD has been connected to.
Page 35
When the CD receives the signal transmitted by the LD it will send the corresponding feeder information to the LD. INFORMATION The LD receives the feeder code and displays it in big letters, finishing the identification process. Examples of received messages depending on network configuration: ...
Page 36
Phase-Phase mode: ‘PHASE: P1-P2’ will means red probe is connected to phase 1 and blue probe to phase 2. Parallel and ringed feeders: ‘FEEDER: 4, 9’ means the customer is connected to two feeders, numbered 4 and 9. Press ENTER button if the identification process needs to be repeated.
6.2. MAN mode In certain cases and due to distribution network characteristics, the codes injected by CD unit on each phase may not reach the network point where the LD is connected. Then if the LD does not receive this signal, it will not send any information to the CD, resulting impossible to identify that network point in Automatic Mode.
Page 38
INFORMATION If the LD is transmitting for a long time in hot conditions it could happen that the device overheats. In this case “OVERTEMPERATURE” message will appear, and the LD will stop injecting the signal until it gets cooled.
7. TIPS It is important to know that the red and blue probes must be connected to the network point to identify (phase to neutral or phase to phase) throughout the whole phase and feeder identification process. The Line Device will automatically start executing the identification algorithm and in a couple of seconds, typically 5 to 15 seconds, it will display phase and feeder data.
Page 40
Device is connected to. In this case we recommend using the Manual Mode. It displays phase information but it doesn’t display feeder information if: There is some noise in the network which doesn’t let the feeder signal injected by the Central Device get to the network point where the Line Device is connected to.
