2 Marking for coolant level

Checking Coolant Level

The coolant reservoir with filler
neck is arranged away from the
radiator. To check the coolant level,
the vehicle must be parked on level
ground.
The coolant level must reach:
the mark indicated on the reser
voir when the coolant is cold
approximately 2 cm (0.8 in)
higher when the coolant is hot.

Adding Coolant

If coolant has to be added, a 50/50
mixture of water and MB anticorro
sion/antifreeze should be used.
Warning!
Do not open the engine hood if
you see or hear steam or cool
ant escaping from the engine
compartment. With the engine
idling and the climate control
system switched off, wait until
no steam or coolant can be
seen before opening the hood.
Do not remove pressure cap on
coolant reservoir if engine
temperature is above 90° C
(194° F). Allow engine to cool
down before removing cap. The
coolant reservoir contains hot
water and is under pressure.
Using a rag, turn cap to first
notch to relieve excess pres
sure. If opened immediately,
hot scalding fluid and steam
will be blown out under pres
sure.
The drain plugs are located on the
right and left side of the engine and
on the radiator bottom.
