- Page 5 MEASURING CURRENT ON UG CABLES & IN PADMOUNT ENCLOSURES Secondary voltage cables are generally unshielded and current can be easily measured by placing the HVA completely over the secondary cable or cable bundle so that all cables are completely inside the U on the HVA. Primary voltage cables are generally shielded and the HVA cannot measure current on a shielded cable except in areas where the shield has been removed.
