AFCI Branch Circuit Breaker

INSTALLATION

WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK OR DEATH: TURN OFF POWER
SUPPLYING THIS EQUIPMENT, AND CONFIRM POWER IS OFF, before
installing, removing or servicing this equipment.
1. Turn OFF all power to the panelboard by moving the handle of the main breaker to
OFF position (see fig. 1). NOTE: If installing the AFCI breaker in a sub-panel turn
power OFF from the breaker located in the main panel.
2. Remove panel cover (if necessary).
3. Strip and connect the load power and load neutral conductors to appropriate
terminal lugs (see fig. 1 and the Terminations table). NOTE: The load neutral
MUST be connected to the load neutral terminal, NOT the main neutral terminal.
4. Place handle of the AFCI branch circuit breaker to the OFF position (see fig. 2).
NOTE: The circuit breaker CAN NOT be switched to the ON position until the
installation is complete and power is supplied to the unit.
NOTE: Leviton AFCI branch circuit breakers contain a Reset Lockout feature that
will prevent putting the breaker in the ON position if the AFCI cannot pass its
internal test, indicating that it may not be able to provide protection in the event of
an arc fault.
5. Place AFCI branch circuit breaker into the panel as shown (see fig. 4).
6. Install test instruction label and occupant's test reminder card (supplied).
7. Replace all doors and covers before turning ON power to this equipment.

TESTING INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: Test monthly to ensure continued protection.
1. Turn power OFF or unplug all loads downstream of the AFCI branch circuit breaker.
2. Turn power to the panelboard ON by moving the main breaker to the ON position
(see fig 1). NOTE: If installed in a sub-panel restore power from the breaker located
in the main panel.
3. Place handle of the AFCI branch circuit breaker to the OFF position (see fig. 2), then
place the handle to the ON position (see fig. 3).
4. If the AFCI branch circuit breaker can be put into the ON position, and the handle
window is green, it is working properly.
5. If the AFCI branch circuit breaker handle cannot be put into the ON position, recheck
wiring and installation, or contact an electrician to make the repairs.

HANDLE OPERATION AND LED DIAGNOSTICS

Each circuit breaker's rocker handle window displays its operational status using an
intuitive color scheme. In addition, LEDs indicate trip condition and are illuminated even
when the breaker is tripped - because the circuit breaker's electronics are powered from
the line side instead of the load side, an industry first (see Handle operation and LED
diagnostics table & fig. 5).
In the event that the circuit breaker trips move the handle to the OFF position and then
to the ON position. If the circuit breaker will not reset or trips again turn OFF or unplug
all loads downstream of the circuit breaker and try again. If the circuit breaker still will
not reset, contact an electrician to make repairs.
