Installation Instructions

1. Raise and support the vehicle with jack stands on a stable
surface. Note: Never rely on a jack alone to support a vehicle.
2. Examine how the OEM sway bar is installed. (Figure 1) The
arrangement and orientation of the hardware can be critical
for proper clearance and operation. The location and
support of the parking brake cable should also be noted.
3. Unbolt and remove the OEM sway bar taking caution to keep
any and all spacers. CAUTION: Sway bars are heavy steel
parts that can cause injury if unsupported during removal or
installation.
Note: Vehicles not originally equipped with a rear sway bar will require boxed trailing arms such as QA1 #5204 or #5205 for
best performance. OEM boxed arms for '64-'72 A-bodies can be used on those model years (Figure 2).
1978-'88 A/G bodies used spacers in the rear trailing arms (See arrow in Figure 3) which will be required to complete
the installation of the QA1 rear sway bar in those vehicles using OEM trailing arms.

  • Page 2 Figure 2 7. Due to variances from vehicle to vehicle your 52871 (A-Body) sway bar will include two thicker (.120”) shims and two (.060”) shims. (Figure 4) Install one thick shim on each side between mounting blocks and trailing arm.
  • Page 3 Torque the mounting hardware to 40 lb.-ft. at this time. 9. Check for any contact with brake lines, electrical wiring, fuel lines or cables. Adjust the sway bar as needed. Note: It is best to use sway bars that have been designed to work together. Never drive a vehicle with only a rear sway bar installed, as this can cause a dangerous over steer condition.
