3. WARNINGS, CAUTIONS AND NOTES
Warnings, cautions and notes are placed at critical points in this manual to direct the operator's
attention to significant items. They are defined as follows:
WARNING: Failure to comply with a WARNING may result in serious injury or death.
CAUTION : Failure to comply with a CAUTION may result in injury to the operator, or damage to the
items involved.
NOTE
: A NOTE indicates a procedure or point that is important to the process being described.
Observe the following precautions to ensure safety.
After the power is turned on, the blade temperature reaches approx. 200°C to 800°C (392°F to 1472°F).
Improper handling may cause burns or fire. Be sure to observe the following precautions:
Do not touch any metal area in the vicinity of blades.
Please make sure that all items listed
Never use FT-800 near paper or other flammable materials.

Inform others in the area that the product is hot and should not be touched.
Turn the power off when not in use.

Before changing parts or storing the unit, be sure to turn the power off and allow the unit to cool to room

Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents or damage to the unit.
Do not use the HAKKO FT-800 for applications other than wire stripping.
To remove stripped insulation waste, do not apply excessive force to the unit such as striking the blade
against the workbench.
Do not modify the HAKKO FT-800.
Do not allow the HAKKO FT-800 to become wet, and do not use it with wet hands.
Since smoke is produced when using the wire stripper, be sure to ventilate the work area fully.

Do not take any actions that might be dangerous.

4. ASSEMBLY
l Connection cord
Pass the connection cord through the hole of the
heat resistant pad.

l Blade attachment
1. Install the blades into the handpiece in the

correct direction as shown in the figures.
2. When attaching the blades, press them firmly
until the flange is locked into the handpiece.
NOTE:
Unless both blades are inserted fully, the blades

resistant pad even when the blade is

l Lead adjustor attachment
The lead adjustor is used to set the wire
stripping length. See attachment directions for
proper installation.
NOTE:
The lead adjustor can set the wire strip length
from 1 - 19 mm or 20 - 38 mm.
The lead adjustor is marked with a 1 mm interval
scal. (Refer to the figure at right)

l Connection
1. Connect the plug of the connection cord to the
receptacle.
2. Place the FT-8001 in the handpiece holder.
3. Insert the power plug into the plug outlet.

Turn off the power before inserting or removing
the plug of the connection cord from the recepta-
cle. The P.W.B. may be damaged if the power is
left on when inserting or removing the plug.
NOTE:
The FT-8001 can be placed in the handpiece
holder with the heater lamp facing upward or
downward.
5. OPERATION
l Turn on the power switch.
Power save mode
The FT-800 station has a power save lamp and
the FT-8001 has a heater lamp.
After turning on the power, the heater lamp on
the FT-8001 will flash. The power save lamp on
the FT-800 station is lit when the FT-8001 is
placed in the handpiece holder.
When using the FT-8001, take the FT-8001 out
of the handpiece holder. When the temperature
stabilizes, the heater lamp will change from
flashing to being continuously lit.

When the FT-8001 is placed in the handpiece
holder, the power save mode is on. When in the
power save mode, the blade temperature is
reduced by approx.50% (under 300°C;572°F).

NOTE:
Aging of the blade heater may deteriotate the
blade performace. If such a deterioration results
in a difficulty in melting the wire insulation, use
the temperature adjustment knob to raise the
temperature setting of the blade.
CAUTION
Since the temperature of the blade is very hot,
place the FT-8001 in the handpiece holder when
not using it.
2. Locking the temperature adjustment knob. The
temperature adjustment knob is equipped with a
lock function. (Refer to the figure at right.)
After setting the temperature, tighten the
hexagon nut (clockwise) in the knob mount with
the hexagon wrench
CAUTION
Do not tighten the hexagon nut excessively.

Do not attempt to turn the temperature
adjustment knob with the knob locked.
