  • Page 2 EX5000 SET UP INSTRUCTIONS Thank you for purchasing the Martin Yale EX5000 labeler/tabber. Your unit is designed to provide you with years of service, and is virtually maintenance free. Upon receiving your unit, make a close inspection of the machine and make sure you have the following components.
  • Page 3 Initially, install the slo tted connection plate (#9) using the four screw holes, shown in pictures one and two. (Bottom of page one). Once this is installed, it is not removed from the machine again. The first determination that must be made to set your unit up is whether the initial use of the machine will be as a tabber or labeler.
  • Page 4 Angular feed slider Media guides (#4) Position brackets so that the bottom ends are a little closer than the top ends. Once the brackets are in place, the retarder plate needs to be adjusted to feed your media individually. Below are two methods that can be used to calibrate feed.
  • Page 5 Feed plate knob. Right side. Method #1 Feed Tip Feed Wheel Tooth Insert stock from front to set. Feed System, Right Side. Loosen the (2) blue thumb knobs on the retarder plate. Lift slightly above the surface of the feed wheels. Manually rotate the feed wheel so that one of their teeth is directly beneath the feed tips of the retarder plate.
  • Page 6 Lift the plate, and manually rotate the feed tires until one of their teeth is directly beneath the tips of the plate. Lower plate down, and then lift up until just a sliver of light shows through. Tighten knob and repeat for the other side. Some slight readjustment may be necessary.
  • Page 7 Setting the ‘Pitch value’. The pitch must be programmed into the unit for it to function properly. The pitch is defined as the distance from the bottom edge of one tab/ label to the bottom edge of the next tab/ label. It is important that the proper number is programmed here.
