DESCRIPTION

The ALD-19.2 Asynchronous Line Driver transmits and receives data bi-directionally at data rates of 9.6k
and 19.2kbps. The unit is designed for RS-232 asynchronous Point-to-Point operation utilizing private
twisted pair (4-wire) wiring. The unit requires no AC power source.
DO NOT CONNECT THE ALD-19.2 TO A PUBLIC SWITCHED TELEPHONE NETWORK
The ALD-19.2 has a DB-25 male connector for RS-232 connection. The RS-232 port is manufactured as a
DCE interface. The unit has a five position terminal block for connection to the transmission line, including a
4-wire connection and ground. Built-in surge protection protects both the RS-232 and 4-wire interface
connection.
The ALD-19.2 utilizes two microprocessors to pass control signals bi-directionally independent of data or
carrier operation. Control signals for DTR-to-DSR or DTR-to-CTS are passed as in-band flow control. This
flow control is full duplex and control signals are transferred simultaneously in both directions. The unit has
the ability to operate with only one control signal being active and 5 volts present on the active signal.
A six position dip switch is located inside the ALD-19.2 and is accessable by removing the cover. The unit
is switch selectable for asynchronous data format, data rate and in-band flow control.
The ALD-19.2 is housed in a sturdy metal enclosure, has a three year warranty and a 24 hour turnaround on
warranty repairs.
