Troubleshooting

Problem
The engine will not start.
The engine runs rough.
Possible Cause
1. The air filter for model 68036 is placed
backwards in the air-filter cover.
2. The engine on/off switch is in the stop
position.
3. The choke is open.
4. The fuel tank is empty.
5. The spark-plug wire is loose or
disconnected.
6. The spark plug is fouled or improperly
gapped.
1. The choke is closed.
2. The air filter is clogged.
3. There is water or contaminants in the
fuel.
4. The spark plug is worn or has buildup
on the electrodes.

Corrective Action
1. Switch the orientation of the air filter in
the air-filter cover.
2. Move the switch to the run position.
3. Close the choke when starting a cold
engine.
4. Fill the tank with fresh fuel.
5. Connect the spark-plug wire.
6. Correct the electrode gap or replace
the spark plug.
1. Open the choke.
2. Clean or replace the air filter.
3. Drain and fill the tank with fresh fuel.
4. Correct the electrode gap or replace
the spark plug.
