Introduction
The RedSnake Infrared Link (IL-200) communication port serial adapter is developed to
give the user possibility to easily transfer files between a desktop computer and a device
(notebook, palmtop computers, mobile phones) with a built-in IrDA compliant infrared interface,
without using cable connections.

Installing
System Requirements
- Pentium or 486DX based PC compatible computer
- Free serial communication port (COMx).
- Installation CD of Windows 95/98/ME/2000 operation system.
Installing Hardware
- Turn off the PC.
- Locate a COM (serial) port on the back of your PC. Most COM ports use 9-pin male
connectors.
Note:
If all your PC's COM ports are already used by a mouse and/or an external modem, you
must install an add-in board with additional COM ports.
- Insert the connector of RedSnake in the 9-pin COM port.
Note:
If your PC has a 25-pin connector, you must use a 9-pin to 25-pin converter.
Warning!!!
Do not remove the connector of RedSnake until PC is turned on! In case if you do, please
restart your computer.
Installing the Infrared Support for Windows 95/98/2000 software
- Windows Millennium Edition (ME) double click the Irdasir.reg file, and select Yes to update
the registry. Irdasir.reg is located on Windows ME CD in TOOLS\PSSUTIL directory.
- Start the Add New Hardware in Start menu / Settings / Control Panel.
- Follow the prompts until it asks you ' Do you want Windows to search for new hardware? '.
Choose 'No, I want to select the hardware from a list'.
- Follow the prompts until it asks you to select the type of hardware you want to install. Choose
'Infrared devices' from the list.
- Windows 95 and 2000 follow the prompts again until it asks you to select Manufacturer and
Infrared Device. Choose the 'ACTiSYS' and 'ACT-IR220L Infrared Wireless Interface'.
- Windows 98 and ME follow the prompts again until it asks you to select Manufacturer and
Infrared Device. Choose the 'Infrared COM port or dongle' and 'Generic Infrared Serial Port
or dongle'. Next window asks you to select the 'Infrared Transceiver. Choose 'ACTiSYS
220L'.
- Follow the prompts until it asks you to select a Communications Port. Choose the COM port
the IL-200 is physically connected.
- Follow the prompts again until it asks you what default ports to use. If your computer has two
parallel port (LPT1, LPT2) and two serial ports and one internal modem (COM1, COM2,
COM3) use the COM4 and LPT3 setting.
- Click on „Finish", your driver is installed successfully.
- Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and ME use Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) to locate the
EnablePowerManagement value in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VCOMM. On the Edit
menu, click Modify, change 01 to 00, and then click OK. Quit Registry Editor and Reboot.
Usage of Infrared driver software (Windows 95/98)
- Go to „Control Panel" and double click the icon called „Infrared".
- Under the „Options" index select the „Enable communications on ...", then click on „Apply".
- Under the „Preferences" index, check all the check box and click on „OK"
- You should see the Infrared Monitor icon in the right hand corner of the taskbar.
Usage of Wireless Link software (Windows ME)
- Go to „Control Panel" and double click the icon called „Wireless Link".
- Set the maximum communication speed and communication port in window Control
Panel/Network 'Generic Infrared Serial Port or dongle' Properties/Advanced.
Usage of Wireless Link software (Windows 2000)
- Go to „Control Panel" and double click the icon called „Wireless Link".
- Enable or disable the communication in window Hardware / Properties / General menu
Device usage.
- Set the maximum communication speed in window IrDA Settings menu Maximum Connection
Rate.
