    Some software, such as EchoLink, requires the interface to provide a squelch input to detect if the radio channel is busy. In RigExpert Standard, the squelch input is assigned to the DCD line of the COM port used for PTT and CW outputs.

    Front and rear panels 1. ON. Lights when the RigExpert Standard device is plugged in and the drivers are installed. 2. CW. Shows transmissions in CW mode. 3. PTT. Indicates when the transceiver transmits. 4. CAT. Monitors CAT data exchange between transceiver and computer.

    1) Insure the RigExpert Standard is unplugged from both computer and transceiver. 2) Windows users: Insert the RigExpert Standard CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the CD does not auto-start, run SetupRES from the CD. All necessary software will be copied on your hard drive.

    Normally, the Microsoft Certified driver for these operating systems is installed when you first run the RigExpert Standard CD. Additionally, you may find the driver files in the Drivers folder on the CD. Continue with driver settings when you see "Your hardware is installed and ready to use" message.

    Setting up software to operate using RigExpert Standard There are few settings that have to be done (or verified) in the software once the RigExpert Standard device is plugged in and the drivers are installed. A combination of two or more programs may be set up to use all functions of RigExpert Standard.

    Please notice that RigExpert Standard cable diagrams do not show the connection between the transceiver’s squelch output and pin 5 of the 25-pin connector on the back of RigExpert Standard. You will need to add this connection if you want to use the transceiver’s squelch in EchoLink.

    In some cases, it is necessary to change audio input or output gain to satisfy transceiver requirements, or perform other additional settings. Open the RigExpert Standard box with a screwdriver. Find a corresponding jumper and set it to a new position according to the following picture.

    5mA maximum. CAT serial in/out: RigExpert Standard provides various methods of connecting serial in/out lines with different signal levels to the virtually any model of transceiver. This only requires shortening some pins on the RigExpert Standard transceiver connector.
