1. About the Camcorder 1.3 Button Function Description Icon Button Name Function Description Hold the POWER button for 2 seconds to turn the power on/off. When in PLAYBACK mode or browsing a menu, use the ZOOM button to scroll. 2.Start To Use 2.1 Inserting The Memory Card To store your photos and videos insert an SD memory card. When battery is low, media stored on the memory card will not be lost. Please insert the memory card by following the steps below: Open the screen and push the SD card door towards the screen. Insert the memory card. Ensure that the metal contacts are inserted first. Push the memory card down until you hear an audible click. Close the SD card door by pushing down and sliding back into place until you hear a click. Attention! Please format the memory card before using the camcorder.
2. Start to Use 2.2 Installing The Battery Insert the li-ion battery into the battery compartment with the metal contacts facing the back of the camcorder. Push the battery in until it clicks. Close the battery door. compartment as shown above. 2.3 Charging The Battery Connect your camcorder to your computer with the USB cable provided for charging. 2.4 Turning the Camcorder On/Off Hold the POWER button for 2 seconds to turn the camcorder on. To turn the camcorder off, press and hold the POWER button for a further 2 seconds. When the LCD screen is in the open position, the camcorder will automatically turn on and when the screen is in the closed position, the camcorder will automatically turn off. If the camcorder has low battery, a “low power” message will be displayed on the screen and it will automatically shut down within a matter of seconds.
2. Start to Use 2.5 Switching the Mode Press the MODE button to switch between Video, Photo and Setup Mode. The corresponding mode will be shown on the top left corner of the screen. You can also press the corresponding mode icon in the top left corner of the touch screen to change mode. 2.6 Using the Remote-Control As well as using the buttons on the camcorder, the remote control allows for distance operation. The operation functions are as follows: 1. PHOTO Button: Take photos in Photo Mode. 2. RECORD/STOP Button: Record/Stop videos in Video Mode. 3. IR Light Button: Turn on/off the IR light . 4. 2.Start to Use 2.7 Connecting to a Computer The camcorder can be connected to a computer to transfer photo and video files for viewing and editing, as shown below. Connect this terminal to the standard USB interface of the computer. Connect this terminal to the standard USB interface of the camcorder. 2.8 Connecting to a Standard TV The camcorder can also be connected to a TV to display videos or photos. Connect this terminal to the standard HDMI interface of the TV. Connect this terminal to the standard HDMI interface of your camcorder.

2. Start to Use 2.11 Using the Zoom Function This camcorder has a digital zoom function. To operate the zoom function, slide the ZOOM button from right to left during filming. 2.12 Using the IR Night Vision Mode The Z160IR has a built in night vision mode, giving the ability to take photos and videos in a dark environment. In Photo or Video mode, press the POWER button to turn on the IR fill light. When the IR light is on, the IR light indicator in the bottom left of the screen will go white. To turn off the IR light, press the POWER button. You will notice that the IR light indicator on the screen will now be grey. Attention! Once you have started shooting a video in night vision mode (using the IR light) the video cannot be changed to normal shooting mode. The photos and videos taken while the IR light is on will be black and white.

Using the Camcorder 3.1 Photo Shooting Turn the camcorder on and press the MODE button or press the icon in the top left hand corner of the touch screen to switch to Photo mode. Line up your photo by looking at the LCD screen to see what is in shot. Hold the camera and press the PHOTO button to take a photo. The number of photos that can be taken at a particular resolution will be shown in the top right corner of the screen. A “no card” message will be shown on the screen if there is no SD card in the camcorder. A “storage card full” message will be shown on the screen when the SD card is full. In this instance, please insert another memory card or save the photos to a computer to continue shooting. The number of remaining photos is determined by the chosen photo resolution. The higher the image resolution, the lower the number of photos able to be saved to the memory card. Before taking photos users can set image resolution (22M, 20M,16M, 12M, 10M, 8M, 7M, 5M, 3M, 2M). 3.1.1 Photo Size This function sets the photo resolution. The higher the resolution, the greater the photo quality and the larger the size of the image. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘Resolution’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the resolution sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM (right or left) and the PHOTO button to select the chosen image resolution. 3.1.2 Photo Quality The Photo Quality function determines the level of compression the image undertakes when saving to a memory card.

Using the Camcorder 3.1.4 White Balance White Balance changes the colour of light in your pictures, making it seem warmer or cooler depending on how the light you're shooting in affects the frame. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘White Balance’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the white balance sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button for your chosen setting (auto, daylight, cloudy, incandescent, fluorescent, flour l). 3.1.5 ISO This function adjusts the light sensitivity in your photograph. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘ISO’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the ISO sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button to select your chosen ISO (Auto, 50, 100, 200, 400). 3.1.6 Exposure This function adjusts the frame brightness in your photograph. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘Exposure’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the exposure sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button to select your chosen exposure mode (-2.0, -1.7, -1.3, -1.0, -0.7, -0.3, 0.0, +0.3, +0.7, +1.0, +1.3, +1.7, +2.0). 3.1.7 Self Timer This function determines the time delay before a photograph is captured. This setting can be used by photographers to take photographs of themselves. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘Self Timer’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the self timer sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button to select your chosen time delay (off, 2s, 10s, double).

3. Using the Camcorder 3.1.9 Sharpness This function adjusts the visible detail of a photgraph. 1. In Photo Mode, press MENU, select ‘Sharpness’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the sharpness sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button to select how sharp you would like your photograph to be (hard, normal, soft). 3.1.10 Image Effect This function sets the filter effect of a photograph. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘Effect’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the effect sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button to select your chosen filter (normal, B&W, sepia, negative, red, green, blue). 3.1.11 Date/Time Stamp This function adds a date/time stamp to your photographs. 1. In Photo Mode press MENU, select ‘Date Stamp’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the date stamp sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button for your chosen setting (off, date, date and time). Page 13 explains how to set the time & date on your camcorder. Remember once a date and time stamp appears on a photograph it cannot be removed. Alternatively the Z160IR menus can be navigated via the touch screen. Press the ‘MENU’ icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen to change chosen settings.
3. Using the Camcorder 3.2 Video Recording Turn the camcorder on and press the MODE button or press the icon in the top left hand corner of the touch screen to switch to Video mode. A camcorder icon will now appear in the top left hand corner of the screen. Line up your video by looking at the LCD screen. Hold the camcorder as steady as possible and press the RECORD button to start recording. When recording starts a rolling timer will be shown in red in the top right hand corner of the screen. This indicates the recorded video length. Press the PHOTO button to pause and resume recording. Press the RECORD button to stop recording. The recorded video files will automatically save to the inserted SD memory card. 3.2.1 File Size Your camcorder has a number of preset resolution and frames per second rates. 1. In Video Mode press MENU, select ‘Movie Size’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the movie size sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button for your chosen setting (1080P@30fps, 720p@60fps, 720p@30fps, 640x480p@60fps). The higher the resolution and faster the frames per second rate, the larger the file size. 3.2.2 Video Quality The Video Quality function determines the level of compression the video undertakes when saving to a memory card. 1. In Video Mode press MENU and select ‘Video Quality’ using the ZOOM button. Press the PHOTO button to enter the video quality sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM (right or left) and PHOTO button to select the required quality option (normal/fine/super fine). Super fine uses the least amount of compression and as a result produces a higher video quality.

Spot metering will only base the exposure setting on a very small area of the scene, centre metering will use the light from the centre of the viewfinder and the multi setting measures the light at several points on the screen. 1.In Video Mode press MENU, select ‘Metering’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the metering sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM and PHOTO buttons to select the required metering mode (Centre, Multi or Spot). 3.2.6 Video Effect This function sets the filter effect of a video. 1. In Video Mode press MENU, select ‘Effect’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the effect sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button to navigate up and down the menu and the PHOTO button to select your chosen filter (normal, B&W, sepia, negative, red, green, blue). Alternatively the Z160IR menus can be navigated via the touch screen. Press the ‘MENU’ icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen to change chosen settings.
3. Using the Camcorder 3.3 The Setup Menu In the setup menu basic settings can be changed. These include date & time, language and sounds. Turn the camera on and press the MODE button or press the icon in the top left hand corner of the touch screen to switch to setup mode. A menu will appear on the screen. 3.3.1 Sounds This function can set the sound volume on your camcorder. 1. In Setup Mode, use the ZOOM button to select ‘Sounds’ and press the PHOTO button to enter the sounds sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button (right or left) to switch between ‘shutter’, ‘beep’ and ‘volume’. Use the RECORD button to change the ‘volume’ of the ‘shutter’ setting (a sound is made when a photo has been taken) and the ‘beep’ setting (a sound is made when the camcorder mode is altered). Once you are happy with the sound settings press the PHOTO button to exit the sub-menu.

3.3.7 Format The format setting deletes all images or videos on your memory card. 1. In Setup Mode, select ‘Format…’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the format sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button (right or left) and PHOTO button to select yes or no. 3.3.8 Reset All Factory default can be restored in this menu. This function will not delete the media stored on the memory card. 1. In Setup Mode select ‘Reset All…’ using the ZOOM button and press the PHOTO button to enter the sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM (right or left) and PHOTO button to switch between yes or no. Alternatively the Z160IR menus can be navigated via the touch screen. Press the icon in the top left hand corner of the LCD screen until the settings menu appears.
3. Using the Camcorder 3.4 Playback Mode Photos and videos taken on the camcorder can be played back. You can also delete, protect and play media back in slideshow format. In Playback Mode, the following operations are an option: 3.4.1.1 Lock The Files This function protects the photo/video file. The file will be protected from being deleted accidentally. Files must be unprotected to be deleted. 1. In Playback Mode press MENU, use the ZOOM button (left or right) to select ‘Protect’ and press the PHOTO button to enter the protect sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM (right or left) and PHOTO button to select your chosen setting (single, protect all and unprotect all). 3. If the ‘Single’ option is selected, use the ZOOM button to toggle between ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ option in the ‘Protect File?’ pop-up menu on the screen. 3.4.1.2 Delete The Files This function is used to delete photos. Photos can be deleted one at a time or all at once. 1.In Playback Mode press MENU, use the ZOOM button (left or right) to select ‘Delete…’ and press the PHOTO button to enter the sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM button (right or left) to toggle between ‘single’ and ‘all’. Press the PHOTO button to select. 3.4.1.3 Slide Play Photographs can be viewed as a slideshow on the camcorder. 1.In Playback Mode press MENU, use the ZOOM button (left or right) to select ‘Slide Show…’ and press the PHOTO button to enter the sub-menu. 2. Push the ZOOM (right or left) and PHOTO button to click ‘Start’ and launch a slide show. 3. To change the photo interval select ‘Interval’ and use the RECORD button to choose between 1 to 10 seconds. Once the desired setting is selected, press the PHOTO button. 4. To repeat the images select ‘Repeat’ and use the RECORD button to change from ‘off’ to ‘on’. Once your desired setting is selected, press the PHOTO button. 5. To exit the ‘Slide Show…’ sub-menu, press the MENU button.

3. Using the Camcorder 3.4.2 Playback The Video And The Related Operation Videos can be viewed on the camcorder. 1. In Playback Mode slide the ZOOM button (from left to right) to select the video file for playback. 2. Press the PHOTO button to start playing the video, press the PHOTO button a second time to pause the video. 3. Slide the ZOOM button to fast forward/rewind the chosen video. 4. This camera can support touch in Playback Mode. 1. Click the “ ” icon, stands for play the video file. 2. Click the “ ” icon, stands for pause the video file. 3. 3. Using the Camcorder 3.5 Wireless Connectivity 3.5.1 Connecting to the iSmart DV App To wirelessly operate the Z160IR camcorder you will need to install the “iSmart DV” app on your Android or iOS device. The camera can be operated remotely by following the steps below: 1. Turn the camcorder on and hold the PLAYBACK button for 3 seconds to launch the wireless menu. A ‘Waiting for WIFI connection’ message will be displayed on the screen. To close the wireless menu, hold the PLAYBACK button for 3 seconds. 2. Open your phone wireless menu, turn all wireless settings on and connect to the network named “FDHV_******” then join the network, password is 1234567890. 3. Exit the wireless menu and open the “iSmart DV” app to launch remote operation of the camera. 4. Click ‘Add New Camera’ and ‘Wi-Fi Connect’. Once you are successfully connected a preview screen will be shown and you can begin filming. 5. When you return to the homepage your menu should look as shown below:...

3. Using the Camcorder 3.5.2 Operating the iSmart DV App Your Z160IR will now be operable via your smartphone. It will initially default to the video recording function. To change from video, press the camera icon in the bottom right hand corner your phone screen. Photo function Video function 3.5.2.1 Recording Videos Remotely 1.To start recording a video, press the record button at the bottom of your smartphone screen. While a video is recording remotely, the operating indicator light at the back of the camcorder will flash green and blue. 2. The video resolution can be changed on the app by pressing the button to the right of the screen. The text in the button will change according to current video resolution.

3. Using the Camcorder 3.5.2.2 Taking Photos Remotely 1.To take a photo, press the capture button at the bottom of your smartphone screen. When a photo is taken, the operating indicator light at the back of the camcorder will flash green twice. 2. The photo resolution can be changed on the app. Press the button at the far right of your smartphone screen (22M) to bring up the photo resolution sub menu. Photo resolution can be set at 22M, 20M, 16M, 12M, 10M, 8M, 7M, 5M, 3M and 2M. 3. Self timer can also be adjusted on the app and can be set to Off, 2S and 10S. Once 2S or 10S is selected, press the capture button. A countdown timer will appear on the camcorder screen to signal the countdown.

3. Using the Camcorder 3.5.2.3 Viewing Media on the App To view your photos and videos on the app, press the photo gallery button in the bottom left corner of the screen. All media on the camcorder will load in two sections; photos and videos. Tap the photo or video file you wish to view. From this screen media can be saved to your smartphone and deleted. If a photo or video is deleted on the app, it will also be removed from the SD card in the camcorder. 3.5.2.4 Changing Camcorder Settings on the App Camcorder settings can also be changed on the app. Click the icon in the top right hand corner of the screen to launch the settings menu. From here, a number of settings including white balance and frequency can be changed.
