GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
POWER BEAR CLAW LATCHES
The Instructions provided herein are meant to be a general guide for installing the Electric-Life
Power Bear Claw Latch. It must be remembered that each and every application is different and
may require additional modifications to complete the installation. As with any lock installation
patience is the key.
We suggest that you find a clean work area that will allow you enough room to work around the
doors. It is also helpful if you can have the vehicle raised so that the actual work area is at chest
height. This really helps when your trying to drill mounting holes for the latch. We also suggest
that you purchase a Bear Claw Mounting Kit as pictured below. This will greatly reduce the time
it takes to install the latches and will definitely make the job go easier.
You will need 6 1/4" x 20 button head socket cap screws to attach the latch to the door. We
suggest that you use stainless steel screws to prevent any rust from forming. If you are installing
the latches in a steel door, be sure you use a rust preventative paint or undercoating on any
exposed metal areas.
The first thing we need to determine is where you want to mount the Bear Claw. Careful
consideration should be given to the placement, as once you cut the hole to mount the latch
you're committed! A number of enthusiasts are installing the latch on the post instead of the
door. This is not a problem, however you need to consider how you will release the latch while
inside the vehicle. No matter what your plan is, be sure that you install some sort of manual
release in case of emergency.
