  • Page 5 ENGLISH INTRODUCTION The DO 9709 Dissolved Oxygen - Data Logger allows the measurement of the concentration (expressed in mg/l) of dissolved oxygen in liquids and of the saturation index (expressed in %), using a combined measurement probe of a polarographic type with two or three electrodes, and a temperature sensor inside the probe.

    ENGLISH REFERENCE STANDARD In designing the instrument, the reference taken for measuring Oxygen dissolved in water, using an electrochemical probe method, was standard UNI EN 25814 (Water quality. Determination of dis- solved oxygen. Electrochemical probe method). The German standard DIN 30408 part 23 was also considered (German standard methods for the examination of water, waste water and sludge.

    ENGLISH After having replaced the electrolyte and the membrane, if the membrane has been allowed to dry, wet it and wait for the reading to stabilise before calibrating it. The waiting time is the time neces- sary to use up the dissolved oxygen in the electrolyte. In the case of specimens in a container, take the measurement with the container filled up to over- flowing, using an agitator, for example a magnetic bar.
  • Page 33 ENGLISH METHOD OF USING THE INSTRUMENT AND WARNINGS * Probes for measuring dissolved Oxygen may be influenced by the presence of gases and vapours such as chlorine, sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, amines, ammonia, carbon dioxide, bromine and iodine. These substances may pass through the membrane and interfere with the current measurement.

  • Page 57 ENGLISH INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEMPERATURE CALIBRATION OF THE INSTRUMENT Temperature calibration of the instrument may be carried out either with an external simulator or with a specific probe to be coupled to the instrument and a calibration oven. Calibration may be performed independently on the input A, on the input B for TP 870 probes and on the input B for 4-wire Pt100 probes.

The top of the display will show the message CAL, while the bottom of the display will show the measured temperature. First calibration point 0.0°C (or 32.0°F).
