Unpacking and inspection

The Yenista Tunics Plus, Tunics Purity or Tunics T100
package consists of:
 The Tunics laser
 A set of keys
 A printed user manual
 A FC/APC to FC/PC optical patchcord
 An electrical outlet

Before You Start

Please note that the TUNICS lasers are a Class IIIb products (21 CFR Subchapter J)
equipped with a Remote Interlock connector (See the Auxiliary Inputs and Outputs section
of the user manual).
The laser sources are classified as class 1M according to
IEC 60825-1 (2001).

Getting started

Turn on the Tunics unit:
1. Make sure the key-lock switch on the front panel is in the Standby position.
2. Set the rear panel MAINS switch to ON (I).
3. Turn the front panel key to the right and set it to ON. During the initialization
routine, the message "Initializing..." is displayed.
4. The message "Referencing..." is then displayed to indicate that the system
performs its self-calibration (internal wavelength referencing). This message
clears once the laser is initialized and ready for operation.
5. Once the initialization routine is complete, the laser output is ready to enable.
The message "Disabled" is displayed.
6. The cavity laser is tuned automatically on its central emission wavelength
(depending on the model). The wavelength is displayed in the top window of
the DATA area (see Figure 1).

  • Page 2 1. Press the P function key in the MODE area (see Figure 1). 2. Enter the new value using the numeric keypad or modify knob: 10 mW for a Tunics Plus (possible range: 0.2 mW<P<10 mW) 2 mW for a Tunics Purity (possible range: 0.2 mW<P<2 mW)
  • Page 3 Perform a Step-By-Step Wavelength Scanning Wavelength scanning enables the Tunics tunable laser to broadcast on a different wavelength at each time interval. Starting from the first wavelength (lower wavelength limit set by the user), the emission wavelength increases incrementally (the wavelength increment is stored in the Step parameter and set by the user) up to the last wavelength value (upper wavelength limit set by the user).
  • Page 4 The PAUSE TIMER is the dwell time at the upper wavelength of the sweep range before the Tunics Plus tunable laser returns to the lower wavelength to restart a new sweep cycle. Possible values for Pause Timer range from 0.1 to 25 seconds.
  • Page 5 Perform a self-calibration In addition to the self-calibration performed at start-up only, user can instruct the system to perform a new auto-calibration at any time. 1. Press the key the 2nd + I combination to start auto-calibration. The Tunics performs its internal referencing routine and the message “Referencing…” is displayed 2.
