Your RadioShack TRC-509 FM Walkie-Talkie is a compact, portable 2-way FM radio. You can commu- nicate with another TRC-509 or any FM transceiver operating on the same frequency (49.830 MHz). Use your walkie-talkie to add to your fun when you are at sporting events, on camping trips, biking, or hiking with your friends.

Belt Clip — lets you clip the walkie-talkie to your belt or pocket so you can keep your hands free. Antenna — provides clear reception. Note: To power your TRC-509, you need one 9 volt alkaline battery (not supplied).
PREPARATION INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERY Your walkie-talkie uses one 9 volt battery (not sup- plied) for power. For the longest life and best perfor- mance, we recommend you use an alkaline battery such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-553. Caution: Use only a fresh battery of the required size and recommended type.

3. Replace the cover. When the BATTERY LOW indicator lights, replace the battery. Cautions: • Always remove an old or weak battery. Batter- ies can leak chemicals that can destroy elec- tronic parts. • Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not bury or burn them.
INSTALLING THE BELT CLIP Your walkie-talkie comes with a belt clip. To install it, slide the clip into the slot on the back of the trans- ceiver until it locks into place. To remove the belt clip, lift up on the locking tab and slide the clip out.
OPERATION USING THE WALKIE-TALKIE 1. Pull out and fully extend the antenna for maxi- mum range. 2. Turn on the walkie-talkie by rotating up until you hear a click. 3. To transmit, press into the microphone (MIC). Or, press transmit a tone signal, which alerts the other person to your call.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your RadioShack TRC-509 FM Walkie-Talkie is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your walkie-talkie so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the walkie-talkie dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.

Use only a fresh battery of the required size and recommended type. Batteries can leak chemicals that damage your walkie-talkie’s electronic parts. Wipe the walkie-talkie with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong deter- gents to clean the walkie-talkie.

To deter- mine whether your walkie-talkie is causing the interference, turn off your walkie-talkie. If the inter- ference goes away, your walkie-talkie is causing it.
