VOICE CONTROL SYSTEM

The navigation system has a voice control system that
allows you to operate most of the navigation and audio
functions using only your voice. To interact with the
navigation system, use the NAVI TALK and NAVI
BACK buttons. The microphone is located in the
ceiling. This is the primary way to give commands to
the system. The system display buttons and the touch
screen are a secondary way to use the navigation
system.

Improving Recognition
If the system does not understand your voice
commands, refer to Improving Voice Recognition in the
navigation manual.
NOTE:
• The navigation system does not respond, and
displays an error message, if you have activated the
HFL TALK button. Press the HFL BACK button
before using the navigation system.
• You must be in the driver's seat to use voice
commands with the navigation system.
• If you speak a command with something in your
mouth, with a heavy accent, or have a high-pitched
voice, the system may misinterpret your voice
command.
NAVIGATION DVD INSTALLATION
The 2009–10 Element navigation unit does not arrive
with a pre-installed DVD like the navigation systems in
other models. To install the DVD, do this:
1. Make sure fuse No. 9 (10 A) was installed in the
under-hood fuse/relay box during the normal PDI of
the vehicle.
2. Locate the turquoise-colored navigation DVD
stowed in a plastic jewel case with the owner's
manuals in the glove box.
NOTE: The Element uses a turquoise DVD. If you
cannot find the DVD, order a replacement from the
Honda Disc Fulfillment Center (see ORDERING A
NAVIGATION DVD on page 6). For reimbursement
of the replacement DVD cost, use the iN
(Interactive Network) to file a warranty
"transportation claim."
3. Start the engine.
4. Push the OPEN button to tilt down the screen.
NOTE: Voice commands are disabled when the
screen is tilted down.
