Fuel Sediment Cup Cleaning The sediment cup prevents dirt or water which may be in the fuel tank from entering the carburetor. If the engine has not been run for a long time, the sediment cup should be cleaned. 1. Turn the fuel valve lever to the OFF position. Remove the sediment cup, O-ring, and filter. 2.
6. Check that the spark plug washer is in good condition, and thread the spark plug in by hand to prevent cross- threading. 7. After the spark plug is seated, tighten with a spark plug wrench to compress the washer. If installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/2turn after the spark plug seats to compress the washer.
4. Remove the spark plug, and pour about a tablespoon of clean engine oil into the cylinder. Crank the engine several revolutions to distribute the oil, and then reinstall the spark plug. 5. Slowly pull the starter grip until resistance is felt. At this point, the piston is coming up on its compression stroke and both the intake and exhaust valves are closed.
