Trouble
Engine fails to start
Dirty air cleaner
Engine needs to be primed
Fuel tank empty
Stale fuel in gasoline tank
Throttle lever not in FAST
Spark plug wire disconnected.

Engine flooded

Spark plug wire loose

Possible Cause(s)
Corrective Action
Refer to the engine manual packed with your unit.
Push primer bulb two or three times.
Fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
Drain gasoline and refill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
Move throttle lever to FAST (rabbit) position.
Connect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
Clean, adjust gap or replace spark plug.
Refer to the engine manual packed with your unit.
Connect and tighten spark plug wire.
Drain gasoline and refill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
Clear vent of any debris.
Drain fuel tank. Refill with fresh fuel.
Refer to the engine manual packed with your unit.
Refer to the engine manual packed with your unit.
Fill crankcase with proper oil.
Clean grass from around the engine's cooling fins.
Replace the engine's air filter.
Refer to the engine manual packed with your unit.
Replace edger blade.
Contact an authorized MTD service dealer.
Replace drive belt.
