After a significant amount of research and study we have determined that for the highest performance only the best quality TVC (Transformer Volume Control) should be used.

Should you need to ship your icOn it should be placed in the aluminium storage case and outer cardboard sleeve which is designed to save your invest- ment from unnecessary damage.
Smart TVC preamplifier TFT DISPLAY Octet Quartet The display shows the volume in dB. Max. volume is +1 dB, minimum level is -48 dB, when muted -99dB. The Octet model indicates the activated in- put with number and name, the Quartet with green icons. The Tape Moni- tor input is active when highlighted with green colour.

For firmware upgrade only 12V DC trigger output (optional) It is active when icOn is switched on and is not in sleep mode. Max. load current: 100 mA - please don’t feed other equipment from it! You can use mono or stere 3.5 mm jack plug.
After the greeting page the Menu page will appear. There are three main Menu groups which are accessed in turn, and allow the user to have the possibility of customise the icOn so suit the partnering equipment being used. The 1st Menu group enables the individual inputs to be to the out- put of the partnering equipment connected to it.

fidelity system. The icOn TVC offers a sub- stantial improvement over all previous such schemes based around resistive at- tenuation by applying transformer technology.
Page 23
Smart TVC preamplifier most of these devices suffered from substantial impedance mismatches with ei- ther sources or loads. If for example a 5kOhm resistive volume control where to be employed in a pas- sive control unit the source would be required to drive all the time a quite severe load of 5kOhm.
Smart TVC preamplifier TECHNICAL DETAILS The transformer is housed in a Mu- metal shielding can that measures 51 mm in diameter x 60 mm in height, excluding the connecting leads. The input and output connec- tions are made via mil. spec. silver plated Teflon insulated copper wire.
Page 25
TVC should not be used with loads lower than 10kOhm. As soon as the signal is attenuated (which is the way the icOn TVC will be oper- ated in most cases most of the time) the input impedance rises and is ultimately only limited by the inductive and capacitive reactance of the primary winding near the outer edges of the audio band.
Page 26
Smart TVC preamplifier The source impedance in general should be as low as possible, the lower the im- pedance from which the icOn TVC is operated the lower the distortion and the wider the effective bandwidth. At the highest source impedance point the bandwidth may be somewhat com- promised and distortion will rise.
Page 27
Thus for a CD-Player with 200 Ohm output im- pedance the worst case output imped- ance after the icOn TVC is around 700 Ohm. For reference, the output imped- ance of the popular Audible Illusions Tube Preamp's line stage is 1200 Ohm.

3. Steps required for the upgrade process Keep switched off the icOn. • Connect the USB cable to icOn through the USB port on the back plate. • icOn will be powered from the USB port of your PC. Start the XLoader program on your PC/laptop.

Start using your icOn as usually and enjoy the new features. • If you have any problems with the upgrade process or with the new icOn con- trol program please contact us and we will do our best to help. If you have any feedback, suggestions regarding the upgraded program version we are happy for your feedback.
