This signal processor can be patched into the input insert points of an audio mixing console. Then each mic channel is processed in the Dugan controller and returned to the console for mixing. Alternatively, internal mix buses in the Model E-3A can be used to sum channels.
  • Page 10 Dugan Model E-3A User Guide The Model E-3A can: • process up to 32 channels (16 AES and 16 ADAT); • be remote controlled from the Dugan Control Panel for Java (included), Dugan Control Panel for iPad (sold separately), and the Dugan Model K Control Surface;...

Dugan Model E-3A User Guide Chapter 2: Theory of the Speech and Music Systems Dugan Speech System The Dugan Speech System is a patented and trademarked automatic mixing function. The Speech System distributes the gain of one open microphone over the entire system, maintaining a natural ambience.

  • Page 13: Dugan Music System

Dugan Model E-3A User Guide Theory of the Speech and Music Systems Dugan Music System Music System The Music System is a soft-gating ducking system with its threshold set by an audio signal, typically from a mic measuring the ambient sound level. Each channel has a 2:1 expansion ratio below the floating threshold.

Dugan Model E-3A User Guide Quickstart Setting Console Input Gains Dugan automixers require enough console preamp gain so the algorithm can mea- sure the ambient noise level on each channel. To set the console gain level: 1. Navigate up to MENU and press ENTER.
  • Page 20: Linking

Dugan Model E-3A User Guide Linking Up to eight Dugan units can be linked into a single automatic mixing system. The audio I/O for each unit must be connected individually. Linking passes only control information between Dugans, not audio. One unit must be set to be the master and the others slaves: 1.

Installation Model E-3A Modes The Model E-3A has a mode switch that controls whether to use AES or ADAT as your primary I/O. When set to AES mode however, the AES and ADAT channels can operate simultaneously. This can yield up to 32 automix channels. In ADAT mode, AES channels will not appear in the Dugan Control Panel.

By default, word clock is derived from the active AES or ADAT input. However, if a word clock signal is sent to , the Model E-3A will use that as its word WORD CLOCK IN clock source. In all cases, the selected word clock is sent to WORD CLOCK OUT.
