Audio output connections

Do not plug in the mains power lead or turn the unit on until all connections have
been made.
Digital audio
The digital audio outputs should be used to decode the surround-sound
soundtracks of BD/DVDs with an external AV Receiver (Note: Digital output must
be set to "RAW" in the Audio setup page). The CXUHD sends an undecoded audio
bitstream to the AV Receiver for decoding into 5.1/7.1 etc.
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a digital connection that can carry
both audio and video in one cable. Direct digital transfer of video and support for
various types of high definition video content make this the best connection type
for picture quality.
The CXUHD supports two HDMI outputs, HDMI Out 1 is capable of 4K UHD
content into a compliant input of the 4K UHD TV and the HDMI Out 2 is audio only.
For normal use with a single TV or TV and AV Receiver use HDMI Out 1 (Primary
Output), as shown below.
1 Direct connection to a TV for HDMI 1
2 Connection to a TV via an AV Receiver
for HDMI 1.

Note: The latest HD audio types, SACD and DVD-A cannot be output over SPDIF/
TOSlink and an HDMI connection must be used for these.
Either a 75ohm coaxial cable designed for digital audio or a TOSlink fibre optic cable
should be used (only one at a time).
Note: It is also possible to output stereo digital audio from the Digital Outputs for
recording on conventional CD-R/MD etc. machines, see section on CXUHD setup.
Note: The Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, DTS HD High Resolution and DTS HD
Master Audio can only be passed by the CXUHD over HDMI.
As HDMI can carry both digital audio and video, HDMI can be used to connect to
AV receivers that support this function for external decoding.
