This cordless digital handset is only intended for use with DeTeWe digital private automatic branch exchange systems. It may not be used directly in conjunction with a public switched telecommunications network. The handset can only be guaranteed to comply with the European specifications for safety and electromagnetic compatibility if it is used exclusively in conjunction with DeTeWe Digital PABX systems.

(coverage) area of the wireless network. The base-stations, in turn, are connected to the varix 14 or varix 200 PABX system, thus enabling you to use this system’s many facilities, ensuring fast and flexible accessibility.
General key layout Each of the keys of your varix M2 has two functions. In the following descriptions, the function of the key at the “shift level” is indicated by the shift symbol, SHIFT key – switches from one function level to the other.

Display LCD display When the cordless handset is not in use, the user display will show you your telephone number, and, if registered, your name, so that you can always distinguish your handset from others (idle-state display). When you use the handset, the display will show relevant information, such as the number dialled or the procedure currently being executed.
Notes Since you can be called on your cordless handset via more than one line (as configured by DEVICE key the service department), the handset has a so-called DEVICE key. The telephone number of your handset is assigned to this key. You will need this key, for example, to shuttle between calls or whenever you wish to switch back to the original connection on your own line after making an enquiry.
Notes The MUTE key can be used to switch off the microphone temporarily so that Mute switch the opposite party cannot hear what you are saying, but without interrupting the connection. The fact that the microphone is switched off is indicated by the mute symbol in the display. To switch the microphone on again, press the MUTE key a second time.

Making internal calls with destination If you have stored internal telephone numbers under the shift level of the number keys (numbers 2 to 0, ,#- see page 69), you can call the respective extension using the key dialling destination key. Press the CONNECT key.

Hold for enquiries You can interrupt a telephone conversation and hold the call to make an enquiry to another subscriber. To do this, press the R key, which will cause the first caller's connection to be “held“. To re-connect to the waiting caller, press the R key* once or press the SHIFT key and the DEVICE key.
Call shuttle Call shuttle If you are holding a call and making an “enquiry“ call (see page 14), you can switch from one held call to the other and back again at will. To do this, simply press the R key*. If this function is not configured on your telephone, then you can switch between calls by pressing the SHIFT key and DEVICE key (connect to first call), the R key (connect to second call), ...

Code entries Setup displays When you call up a facility which has a direct effect on a call (e.g. accepting a call), the function is carried out immediately. For all other facilities, a setup display appears. This provides you with information on current settings of the variable facilities and shows you the options available for making modifications.
Code entries Automatic switch- To facilitate operating procedures, all setup displays which require the enabling/disabling of a facility are provided with the “automatic switch-over function”. This means that, after calling over function up the setup display, the current setting is displayed, for example as “on”. You can now press the STORE key directly, the facility is switched on if it was off, and vice versa.

During a call Transferring calls You can forward calls while in enquiry mode by pressing the CONNECT key. Furthermore, you can also use a pre-programmed key or the service menu for transferring calls. You are talking to a subscriber on an internal connection extension.
During a call Shuttle function You can switch backwards and forwards (shuttle) between two call partners by alternately pressing the R key and your DEVICE key. You can also use a programmed shuttle key or the service menu. You are engaged in a call, another call is connection being held.

List of important information messages When using your PABX telecommunications system you may see various messages in the displays which indicate incorrect input or restricted operating functions. The following is a selection of these display texts with an explanation of the possible causes for the message being displayed.
Connecting instructions and accessory Holder/charger The varix M2 handset (portable part) is powered by a built-in accumulator battery pack which is charged via the charger. The charger, in turn, receives its power from a wall-outlet connected ac/dc plug adapter. Only use the ac/dc plug adaptor supplied with the varix M2 handset! Ensure that no dirt gets on the two contact springs that are visible in the charger shell.

To do this, place the handset in the holder/charger.
