    Operation This chapter describes how to operate the C hardware. First, LIPSTER the most basic operation is explained, i.e. how to start the video work- station and how to shut it down. After that follows a description of the individual items of the C chassis in detail.

    Hardware Guide LIPSTER Basic Operation This section describes how to start the system and how to shut it down. For both procedures the main power switch of the controls on the front of the video system has to be used. To access the controls you have to remove the faceplate first.

    Operation 4.1.2 Shutting Down the System There are several possibilities to shut down C . All possibilities LIPSTER depend on whether the operating system is already loaded, or not.   • Page 44 Hardware Guide LIPSTER settings The system settings determine that the video system uses SCSI to connect the computer system with the video hard disks. These settings are factory set. Do not change them. In the figure above you can find the default set- tings for SCSI.

    Maintenance This chapter explains the maintenance work that you can perform on your own. For each work a detailed procedure description is given. If you experience trouble with the video workstation that can not be re- solved with the work described here or the section “Troubleshooting” on page A-2, please contact your local vendor.

    For further informa- tion on this subject, please contact the DVS service department. The replacement of a failed disk can be divided into four steps: Remove the hard disk from the video system.

Although you can change the video disks with the power turned on (on-the-fly), it is recommended to shut down the system for this procedure.
  • Page 48 Hardware Guide LIPSTER " Change the broken disk against a new one and assemble it in the disk carrier again with the screws. It is best to use the same brand and type of hard disk again. Otherwise a loss of performance might occur. After that, the hard disk is replaced and the device carrier with the new disk has to be reassembled in the video system.
  • Page 49 ’Dynamic Disks’. " After that create a partition on the stripe set (’Stripeset Partition’) and set the drive letter to ’V’ (for ’video’). Some DVS maintenance tools depend on a correct drive letter and volume name for the C stripe set.

In case any of the internal wiring becomes loose, you have to reconnect the video board to the outputs again. The video system works with voltages that can be haz- ardous to your health.
