  • Page 13: Power Considerations

While not required, Xiotech strongly recommends the use of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for an Emprise 7000 system. Use a UPS that shuts down all server connections before it shuts down the Emprise system. When server connections are shut down first, all server I/O will be flushed to disk.
  • Page 14: Power Implementation

Power Implementation The Emprise 7000 system controllers and ISE have two power supplies. Xiotech requires the components of an Emprise storage platform to be plugged into two power distribution units (PDU) on two separate circuits. You can purchase PDUs directly from Xiotech or through an independent vendor.
  • Page 15 The following figure illustrates how to implement US PDUs with two Emprise 7000 system con- trollers and four ISE. As shown in the figure, two PDUs are required. Important: The following example is for 208V. It is not valid for 120V.

  • Page 22: Recommended Placement Of Components

Recommended Placement of Components Xiotech recommends installing the heaviest components first. Mounting heavy components at the bottom of the rack aids rack stability. If you place heavy components at the top, the rack may become top-heavy, which can be hazardous. The ISE are the heaviest components.

  • Page 50: Connecting Ethernet Cables To The Ise And Network

Connecting Ethernet Cables to the ISE and Network Best Practice: Using a private/restricted network protects time-critical controller-to-controller communications from disruptions on the public/corporate network. Xiotech requires segregating the public/corporate network from the private/restricted network. Private Network Support Ethernet connection between the system controllers requires high quality service in order to maintain communications between them.
  • Page 51 Use the diagram below to connect the Emprise 7000 system to the private/restricted network and to connect the ISE Ethernet cables. When accessing the ICON setup menu via the serial port, there will be Ctlr Private IP ADDRESS and Ctlr Private NETMASK fields. Use these fields to set the IP address for ICON and the netmask to use the private/restricted network interface.
