Safety, Notices and Labels Overview A description of the symbols and labels that are used on the Beckman Coulter CESI 8000 High Performance Separation System, or that are shown in this manual, can be found in this section. Do not attempt to perform any procedure before carefully reading all instructions. If in doubt as to how to proceed in any situation, contact your Beckman Coulter Representative.
• This equipment is used in a manner other than specified. Operate the instrument as instructed in the Product Manuals. • You introduce software that is not authorized by Beckman Coulter into your computer. Only operate your system’s computer with software authorized by Beckman Coulter.

The CESI 8000 instrument is situated on the mobile cart. The OptiMS cartridge spray tip (also known as the consumable) on the CESI 8000 instrument has to be in very close proximity to a Mass Spec when the system is used. To avoid damage to the OptiMS consumable, remove it from the MS adapter before adjusting the height or moving the cart.
Other Instrument Labels This section provides information for some labels and symbols appearing on the CESI 8000 instrument housing. These labels and symbols may be associated with user-serviceable procedures. Individual hazards associated with a specific procedure in this manual may use these labels and symbols, and are included in Warnings or Cautions within the procedures for that task.
Australian and New Zealand markets. CSA Mark Label The CSA symbol on the CESI 8000 instrument indicates that the instrument has been certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing laboratory (NRTL) to applicable Laboratory Equipment Safety Standards for the United States and Canada.

NOTE Whenever you call your local dealer or Beckman Coulter, be sure to have your instrument serial number and software version number available.
Space and Ventilation Requirements. • The mobile cart holding the CESI 8000 instrument and computer system is level and stable so that normal operations of the instrument and computer does not cause the cart to shift, jerk, or sway (refer to CESI 8000 Mobile Cart).
Table 2.2 presents system specifications and requirements for the CESI 8000 High Performance Separation System. The CESI 8000 instrument should be placed on top of the CESI 8000 Mobile Cart. The dimensions for the CESI 8000 instrument are also shown in Figure 2.1.
CESI 8000 Mobile Cart The CESI 8000 Mobile Cart is designed to provide the tabletop space where the CESI 8000 instrument can be placed. The cart will also hold all of the hardware components that are shipped as the CESI 8000 Computer System.

NOTE There is one universal power strip bolted to the CESI 8000 Cart tabletop that will supply power to the CESI 8000 instrument, the cart, the controller (PC), and the monitor. The cart has one external cord that is used to provide power to the tabletop universal power strip.

When the Field Services Representative arrives to unbox and set up your unit, ensure the following precaution is observed: CAUTION A minimum of four people is needed to lift the CESI 8000 instrument. Failure to do so could result in bodily injury and/or damage to the instrument. MS Setup If you are using a Thermo Scientific MS, prior to installing the NanoSpray II source ensure that the 1-inch adapter ring for dynamic nano spray is not installed.

CHAPTER 4 CESI 8000 System Training Pre-Training Requirements After the system has been installed, a Beckman Coulter Field Engineer will train up to two operators in basic CESI 8000 system operation. IMPORTANT The CESI 8000 customers (i.e., up to two operators) must be Mass Spectrometer trained and willing to operate the Mass Spectrometer during installation.
