In the warranty period the customer must keep the original packing and pack the DVS product in it in case of a product return. If the customer is not satisfied with the repair, DVS will have the option to either attempt a further repair, exchange the product, or refund the purchase price.
The video system will be shown in a front and a rear view and all its parts and connectors will be listed. For explanatory reasons the section about the rear of the Pronto2K/ProntoHD also contains some information about the DVS naming conventions of the connec- tors.
This section provides an overview of the front of the Pronto2K/ ProntoHD. The operable front panel is covered by a faceplate which can be removed. Therefore, the faceplate will be described first fol- lowed by an overview of the operable front panel of the Pronto2K/ ProntoHD. 2.1.1 The Faceplate The operable front panel is covered by a faceplate that has to be re- moved to gain access, for example, to the video disks.

The faceplate plug connects to the faceplate and provides power to light up its LEDs. Some types of the Pronto2K/ ProntoHD provide a connection to the faceplate via a cable equipped with a plug instead of a plug connec- tion.
Overview of Rear For explanatory reasons this section starts with some information about the DVS naming conventions of the Pronto2K/ProntoHD con- nectors. After that follows a description of the panels and connections on the rear of the video system in detail. First, an overall overview of the rear will be given.
Figure 2-4: Overview of rear panel connector panel 1 The connector panel 1 provides the stan- dard in- and outputs of the Pronto2K/ ProntoHD to give you the full functionality of the video system. It holds, for example, the connectors for remote control and the video I/Os.

Overview SCSI Connector Panel (1) This SCSI connector panel is used to connect either a DVS CineReel or other SCSI devices to the Pronto2K/ProntoHD. The DVS CineReel is a specially designed portable, outdoor-proof disk array. Usually it is used in connection with the DVS CineControl, a transportable digital disk recorder developed to suit the needs of on-set film capturing.

This chapter describes how to operate the Pronto2K/ProntoHD hard- ware. First, the most basic operation is explained, i.e. how to start the video system and how to shut it down. After that follows a description of the individual items of the Pronto2K/ProntoHD chassis in detail.
4.1.1 Starting the System After a proper installation of the system (see chapter “Installation” on page 3-1) you may start the Pronto2K/ProntoHD at any time. To start the video system perform the following: ! Press the main power switch briefly to turn on the video system.
To turn off the video system with the Pronto2K/ProntoHD delivered with 2 chassis you have to shut down the main system first. After that you can turn off the disk array of the Pronto2K/ProntoHD. You have to turn off the power on both casings.
Page 42
Pronto2K/ProntoHD Hardware Guide ! Shut down the system by pressing the main power switch until the system turns off. Shutting down the video system while the operating sys- tem is loading may lead to corrupted system data. Use this procedure only if absolutely necessary.
Operation Operational Items This section describes the operational items of the Pronto2K/ ProntoHD chassis in detail and explains how to operate them. 4.2.1 Faceplate The operable front panel of the video system is covered by a face- plate which can be removed to access the operational items.
The status LED shows when the drive is ac- cessed by the system. Pronto2K/ProntoHD delivered with 2 chassis: With the faceplates of the casings removed you can distinguish the two systems via the DVD-ROM: The main system of the video sys- tem incorporates a DVD-ROM whereas the disk array does not in- clude a DVD-ROM.
If possible, save your data before resetting the system. Otherwise the data may be lost. Pronto2K/ProntoHD delivered with 2 chassis: Because the disk array does not contain any computer components, the system reset but- ton provides no function here.
Page 46
Pronto2K/ProntoHD Hardware Guide settings The system settings determine that the video system uses SCSI to connect the computer system with the video hard disks. These settings are factory set. Do not change them. In the figure above you can find the default set- tings for SCSI.
Maintenance This chapter explains the maintenance work that you can perform on your own. For each work a detailed procedure description is given. If you experience trouble with the video system that can not be re- solved with the work described here or the section “Troubleshooting” on page A-2, please contact your local vendor.
5.1.1 How to Act when a Hard Disk Fails With the Pronto2K/ProntoHD you will notice a broken hard disk when a proper play-out or record of video is no longer possible. Then you have the possibility to replace the broken disk.
Page 49
Maintenance mounting screw disk carrier Figure 5-1: Hard disk carrier overview To remove a video disk from the system perform the following: ! If appropriate, stop the operation of your video system. Although you can change the video disks with the power turned on (on-the-fly), it is recommended to shut down the system for this procedure.
Page 50
Pronto2K/ProntoHD Hardware Guide ! Exchange the broken disk with a new one and assemble it in the disk carrier again with the screws. It is best to use the same brand and type of hard disk again. Otherwise a loss of performance might occur.

’Dynamic Disks’. ! After that create a partition on the stripe set (’Stripeset Partition’) and set the drive letter to ’V’ (for ’video’). Some DVS maintenance tools depend on a correct drive letter and volume name for the Pronto2K/ProntoHD stripe set.
5.1.2 Notes on Formatting the Video Hard Disks This section provides some information that you should observe if you want to format the video storage of the Pronto2K/ProntoHD. The Pronto2K/ProntoHD uses several video hard disks configured to a stripe set as the location where to store the video data. If you want...

Pronto2K/ProntoHD Hardware Guide A.6 Internal Wiring from Video Board to Outputs The video board installed inside the video system is an important piece of equipment. In case any of the internal wiring becomes loose, you have to reconnect the video board to the outputs again.
In any other case, if you do not have the original packing anymore, use a similar structured packing for transportation. DVS can not be held liable for damages due to transporta- tion. Fragile. Avoid shocks or vibrations. For longer distances use a lifting truck.
