    Emergency Warning The Tobii Pro Glasses 2 system is to be used for research purposes only. Be aware that due to the low, but possible risk of failure or distraction, Pro Glasses 2 should not be relied upon or used in dangerous or otherwise critical situations.

    Environment The Tobii Pro Glasses 2 system is designed for use in dry indoor environments. Avoid any exposure to direct sunlight as this will affect eye tracking quality and longer exposure can overheat the equipment. Avoid exposure to any liquids, gels, moist, rain, sweat or other damp materials or environments.

    Cleaning Before cleaning any part of the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 system, unplug the power cord from the outlet and make sure the device is turned off. Both the head unit and recording unit have surface coatings that require special care. Only use the supplied microfibre cleaning cloth or similar products specially intended for cleaning screens or glass with a spe- cial coating.

    Intended use Tobii Pro Glasses 2 is intended to be used in research activities about human behavior including eye movements, in- volving adult participants in a dry and dust free indoor environment. The product should only be used as described in the user manual.

The discreet, ultra-lightweight design ensures natural behavior and research validity in both qualitative and quantita- tive real-world research. Accurate data and robust eye tracking capabilities can be relied on in uncontrolled situations and real- world environments.

    We recommend you don’t installing any antivirus software on your tablet/computer as these may block communica- tion between your tablet and the Tobii Glasses 2 Eye Tracker. For best performance also avoid installing any applica- tion that relies on constant Internet access such as Skype, Spotify or other similar communication or media software.

    Please note that new versions of the Tobii Glasses Recording Unit firmware (version 1.93 Nasselsoppa or higher) are not compatible with, and cannot be analyzed in, older versions of Tobii Pro Lab. If you want to analyze the recordings made with the newest firmware in Tobii Pro Lab, make sure that the latest version of Tobii Pro Lab is installed.

    To perform any analysis beyond simple replay of a recording, you need to import your recordings into Pro Lab. Pro Lab is a sep- arate software and must be purchased separately. Please refer to the Tobii Pro Lab User manual for more information on how to use the software.

    Basic Operations with Tobii Glasses 2 This section covers the basic operating procedures for all components in the Tobii Glasses 2 eye tracking system, including the Head Unit, Recording Unit and Tobii Glasses Controller Software. Setting up Tobii Glasses 2 hardware This section covers how to assemble and prepare the hardware.
  • Page 26 The Tobii Glasses 2 system includes rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries can explode or cause a fire if they are used or charged incorrectly or if they are defective. Do not short-circuit battery poles. Do not expose the battery to water or humidity. Do not expose batteries to heat, di- rect sunlight, solder or fire.

    Changing the lenses on the Head Unit Glasses 2 comes with two different protective lenses, one clear and one tinted. The tinted lens is intended to be used in bright or sunny environments, while the clear lens is intended for general use. Glasses 2 will function even though no lens is attached to the Head Unit.

    Participants can be added to a study in two different ways — either as a part of creating a recording (see section 7.5 Recording with Tobii Glasses 2, page 32), or through the Participants List (see below). If participants' names or identification codes are known beforehand, entering this information into the Tobii Glasses Controller Software in advance of data collection may simpli- fy the participant set up process in the field.

    Recording Unit For Tobii Glasses Controller Software to be able to send or receive information to/from Tobii Glasses 2, the Recording Unit and the tablet/computer running Tobii Glasses Controller Software must be connected to each other. The connection can either be established over WLAN (wireless) or with an Ethernet cable.

    Make the necessary connection and then follow the procedure below: Tap the Settings icon on the Tobii Pro Glasses card in the controller software (the gear symbol down to the left side). The WLAN settings window shows. Here you have the option to turn the wireless function of the recording unit ON/ OFF.

    How to use the Track Status (Adjustments) tool: The Track Status or Adjustments tool is designed as a guide to help you position the Tobii Glasses 2 on a participant correctly. Below is a table of the most common scenarios, what they mean and possible solutions to any problems.

Pupils detected, but not in range — The Tobii Glasses 2 can detect pupils, but they too far away from the Eye Track- ing Cameras.

    Recording with Tobii Glasses 2 Tobii Glasses 2 recordings are initiated from the Dashboard in Tobii Glasses Controller Software on your tablet/computer. Re- cordings are associated with the study that was open when initiating the recording. Make sure the Recording Unit is correctly connected over WLAN or Ethernet to your tablet/computer with Tobii Glasses Controller Software before attempting to start/ stop/pause a recording.

    Tobii Glasses 2 data structure Data from a Tobii Glasses 2 recording is contained in “studies”. Each study contains general study details, participant data and recording data. Since both Tobii Glasses Controller Software and the Recording Unit can generate and store data in a given study, data is automatically synchronized between the two units whenever there is a connection between them.

    Finding the correct correction values If the participant is wearing ordinary glasses, explain for him/her that the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 head unit, as it is not possible to wear over normal glasses, can be equipped with correction lenses to make it possible for him/her to participate in the study. As Prescription Lenses only contain correction lenses for either short-sightedness or long-sightedness, not bi-focal or progressive lenses, you can not correct both impairments at once.
