SYSTEM CONFIGURATION GUIDE
NIC Teaming feature
The Server blade supports NIC teaming which is the ability to configure multiple NICs to a single network
interface for fault tolerance and load balancing
Windows Server 2008 support BASP (Broadcom Advanced Server Program) or Intel PROSet teaming
while Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016 and Linux support teaming
with bonding function supported by OS.
When using NIC teaming, please note the following:
Any of the network teaming must be processed in a single LAN controller.
Teaming feature is not supported on iSCSI interfaces.
Bonding feature of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is supported on the following conditions:
RHEL 6.5(x86_64), RHEL7.1 or later
mode 1 (active-backup), mode 4 (802.3ad)
For other modes, contact your sales representative.
As for VMware teaming features, load balancing and failover are supported. A teaming in the same
controller and a teaming between the standard network and a mezzanin card are possible.
Configuring a teaming between different network controllers may cause performance down.
NIC Partitioning feature
The 10GbE Controllers support NIC partitioning which is the ability to configure a single 10GbE port into
two or four virtual NICs. To use NIC Partitioning, please note the following:
NIC Partitioning should be enabled to install Windows Server operating systems, 64-bit Red Hat
Enterprise Linux operating systems.
NIC Partitioning should be disabled to install 32-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems.
NIC Partitioning should be configured under the maximum configuration limits for networking when
running with VMware systems. For more detail, see the Networking Maximum in the Configuration
Maximums document for VMware. VMware system counts each divided network port as nx_nic 10Gb
Ethernet port.
For connections between virtual machines on the same server, configure the virtual machines on the
same virtual switch or disable NIC Partitioning.
An external switch may not loopback depending on its function or setting. For connections between
controllers, confirm your network specifications in advance.
iSCSI Offload Feature
See the table below for the support matrix of NIC cards supporting iSCSI, available operating systems,
and iSCSI offload feature.
