    1. Introduction The KBA Performa 74 sheet-fed offset machines represent a machine type line for the printing of sheets of up to 520 x 740 mm. The assortment of the KBA Performa 74 machines allows the customer to choose from numerous variants of manufacturing and equipment.

Description of KBA Performa 74 sheet-fed offset machines 3.1 Technical description of machines 3.1.1 Machine control The machine is controlled mainly by a central touch screen located on the rotary bracket on the delivery. From this place, most impor- tant machine functions can be controlled.
  • Page 7 Depending on the square weight of the printed paper, the operators can choose from two modes of the automatic lifting of the feeder table. This selection is completed on the touch screen in the delivery. The KBA Performa 74 machines can also be equipped with a non-stop feeder.
  • Page 8 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 The height of forwarding suckers can be adjusted while the machine is engaged in operation. The rotary valve that controls the pressure and vacuum mode of air distribution can be easily removed from the feeder head body and cleaned of collected paper dust.
  • Page 9 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 3.1.10 Double sheet control This equipment indicates the loading of more than one sheet; the equipment does not require any adjustments. In the event of wrong loading, the feeding comes to a stop and improperly fed sheets are blocked on the feeding bar.
  • Page 10 +10°C (50°F), IPA dosing can be set within a range of 0 to 15 %. The TECHNOTRANS type alpha d20 is standard equipment for KBA Performa 74-4 and 74-5 machines. The TECHNOTRANS type alpha d30 is standard equipment for KBA Performa 74-6 machines.
  • Page 11 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 3.1.18 Removal of impurities from the printing plate When printing selected kinds of paper that is prone to dusting the paper releases varying types of impurities. Most often, the impurities get stuck on the printing plate and subsequently devalue the quality of the print.   • Page 12 PERFORMA 74 3.1.20 Temperation of the inking unit Upon a customer’s request, the KBA Performa 74 machines can be equipped with inking unit cooling and heating equipment (tempered inking unit). This equipment consists of three hollow stainless distribution rollers in the inking unit of each printing unit, distribution of a cooling solution through the machine, and TECHNOTRANS chiller, type Alpha.c.

  • Page 14 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 3.1.27 Remotely controlled diagonal cocking of printing plates It happens quite often during register setting that the printing plate on the plate cylinder has to be moved. If diagonal cocking is required, and if standard plate cylinders are used, the machine has to be stopped and the necessary procedure has to be carried out manually and the print is then resumed.
  • Page 15 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 When inserting printing plates semiautomatically, only the fi rst of the above mentioned steps has to be completed manually. The others are carried out automatically without the operator’s interference. Go to the touch screen in the semiautomatic insertion menu to prese- lect the semiautomatic insertion mode and the numbers of the printing units on which this procedure will be completed.

  • Page 17 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 3.1.36 IR infra-red drying When appropriate inks and infrared drying are used (IR), the drying of inks can be accele rated and printed sheets can be unloaded without or with minimal powdering. This advantage is ap- preciated mainly when printed sheets are to be laminated or coated.

  • Page 19 Basic Technical Information of the Printing Machine PERFORMA 74 3.1.44 Automatic washer of offset blanket This equipment is designed for the quick washing of ink, varnish, dust, and other print-generated impurities off the rubber coating of the blanket cylinder. This function is fulfi lled by means of a winding-off textile cleaning belt that cleans the offset blanket surface with the aid of a deter- gent and water that are sprayed onto this surface by a bar with nozzles.

Grafi Control remote control desk The basic version of Grafi Control allows for the remote setting of the color ink duct, color ductor inching, printing register and dampening pan roller revolutions from the remote control desk.

  • Page 26 The coating unit design is based on the structure of the printing unit applied in the KBA KBA Performa 74 machines. The passage of the sheet through the coating unit – i.e. the struc- tural design and layout of the impression cylinder and the transfer cylinder – is identical with the passage of the sheet through the printing unit.
