Introduction Enseo’s Encrypted DVD player (Navy DVD) is one of two products that is capable of playing secure content generated by Enseo’s Navy Motion Picture Service Media Encryption Station. The Enseo Navy DVD player supports several modes of video and audio output through playback of DVD media while ensuring a very specific set of criteria. The criteria include, but are not limited to, measures of security across content encryption, encoding to media, tampering, and theft. Interface The Enseo Navy DVD player is a DVD player with two main areas of focus: the first is display and control, and the second is connections. The display and control modules, located on the panel that faces the user, are modules that the user will interact with during normal operation. The connections, located on the panel facing away from the user, interface with other systems, and should not be changed frequently. Display and Control Below is a diagram of the front panel of the Enseo Navy DVD player. 2 01 0 4 4 1 8 • Play/Pause – During operation, the user may wish to pause and resume playback of the media. Inserted media is automatically set to play. Pressing the radial Play/Pause button will send playback to the paused state, and resume playback if the media is currently paused. Indicators will appear on the top left of the screen to denote the current play/paused state. • Skip Backward – Encrypted media that has been generated by the NMPS Media Encryption Station will have the ability to skip through content in 30-second increments. One push of this radial button skips the current progress in the media backwards by 30 seconds. Multiple sequential presses will allow quick backward traversal of the media in play. A progress bar will appear with a time indicator to denote the current position in the media. Note that warning messages that may be included on a disc cannot be skipped. Also note that if the media track were skipped to before the beginning of the media, it will cycle around to several minutes before the end of the track.
  • Page 7 Note that resolving some conditions on the user’s end will clear some security statuses, while other statuses may require contact with Enseo. Almost all security statuses will require resolution before the Enseo Navy DVD player can resume normal playback.
  • Page 8: Connections

    • Audio Out – Audio Out is two RCA connections for left and right composite audio out. This is always active, but is not required for the system to work. Connecting these sources of audio to a sound system capable of composite audio will send audio that the Enseo Navy DVD player is producing to that system for playback. • HDMI – The HDMI connection is an HDMI video source generated from the Enseo Navy DVD player. This is always active, but is not required for the system to work. Connect a device capable of receiving an HDMI source for high definition video and audio (as provided by the encoded material). An HDMI to DVI adaptor may be used to push video signal to a DVI source on a system. Note that another source from the Enseo Navy DVD player may then be used to get audio from content playback. • Display Control – Display Control handles control properties of the TV when available through the Enseo Navy DVD player. Currently this feature is not active, and is not intended nor required for operational use of the Navy DVD player. page 8...
  • Page 9: Remotes

    • USB – The USB port is not intended for normal operational use. This is mainly for troubleshooting and non- routine maintenance, should it occur. • Network – The network connection is not intended for normal operation use. This is mainly for troubleshoot- ing, non-routing maintenance, and security handling by Enseo, should it occur. Remotes There are two remotes designed to be compatible with the Enseo Navy DVD player: the Enseo Setup Remote and the Navy Media Remote. Enseo Setup Remote The Enseo Setup Remote is a small remote made for easy access to the Setup Menu. This remote does not support media manipulation commands (such as play, pause, etc.). The Enseo Navy DVD player does not come with this by default. The operational commands from the Enseo Setup Remote are as follows: • STBY: Sends the Enseo Navy DVD player to standby (Orange Status LED). • ON: Sends a power on command to the Enseo Navy DVD player (Green Status LED). • PWR: Sends a toggle power (on/off, off/on) command to the Enseo Navy DVD player. • MUTE: Mutes the audio being sent from the audio sources of the Enseo Navy DVD player. Press again to un-mute.
  • Page 10: Navy Media Remote

Navy Media Remote The Navy Media Remote is the default remote that ships with each Enseo Navy DVD player. It is the general user re- mote, and it supports the following commands: • POWER: Sends a toggle power (on/off, off/on) command to the Enseo Navy DVD player. • MENU: Opens the User Menu. • DIRECTIONAL ARROWS: These four keys (NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, WEST) navigate the menus. The EAST arrow also acts as a “select” command to sub- menus. • SELECT: Used for selecting an action in the menus. • MUTE: Mutes the audio being sent from the audio sources of the Enseo Navy DVD player. Press again to un-mute. • CC: Toggles the current settings for closed captioning between “On”, “On When Muted”, and “Off”. See Captioning Options in the setup or User Menu below for more information. • SLEEP: Opens the User Menu with focus on sleep. Sequential presses of the SLEEP button will cycle through the available sleep timers that the Navy DVD player supports. • DIgIT KEYS (0-9): The 10 digit keys are used for entering channel numbers and specific numeric information in the menus. • STATUS KEY: This button is yellow and located below the 9 and to the right of the 0 on the Navy Media Remote (bottom, rightmost button). When pressed it will show the serial number, id number, and date and time for that specific Enseo Navy DVD player. DVD Function Buttons (listed from left to right, top to bottom): • PLAY: Sends a play/pause toggle to the Enseo Navy DVD player.

Note that for full details of command functions that are present on the remotes and the front panel of the Enseo Navy DVD player, see the Interface, Display and Control sections on page 5. Display Modes The Enseo Navy DVD player is capable of displaying several modes of video and audio. All of these connections are active at the same time without interruption of another component. Video The Enseo Navy DVD player is capable of playing video out of the HDMI connection and the Video Out connection on the back panel of the player.

Include in List A channel can be specified to be accessible in the channel ring (rotation of channels available for viewing) or not. Selecting “Yes” in Include in List will enable the channel in the channel ring, and “No” will exempt the channel from the channel ring. Note that the Enseo Navy DVD player will automatically force all channels but the Start-Up Channel to “No”, and will not allow other channels to be included in the channel ring. Type The Type function defines the source of input for the channel type. The Enseo Navy DVD player has only File Playback available for channel types, which results in source supplied from non-volatile storage located within the system player (DVD playback).
  • Page 13: Playlist Id

Playlist ID The Playlist ID function allows the user to select the number of the Playlist ID from which the media to be played will play. The default Playlist ID is “1”, however, it depends on the supplied content for playback. The default Playlist ID for generated media through the NMPS Media Encryption Station is “1”. Label The Label function allows the user to define a string of characters that will display information about the channel. This information is included in channel ring details, and is disabled from viewing on the output display of the Enseo Navy DVD player. Logo The Logo function allows the user to define a supplied image that goes with the channel ring details, and is disabled from viewing on the output display of the Enseo Navy DVD player. Clear Channel List The second option under Channel Options is Clear Channel List. The Clear Channel List function allows the user to delete all information currently stored in the channel ring, with the exception of the startup channel. The Enseo Navy DVD player cannot define any channels other than the startup channel, so the Clear Channel List function has no effect. Captioning Options The second option under the Setup Menu is Channel Options. This menu allows the user to define the state of cap- tioning options upon entering the power-on state. The available switch-on features to define are: Restore User Settings, Captioning, Digital Captioning Mode, and Analog Captioning Mode. Restore User Settings After entering the Captioning Options function, the first function is Restore User Settings. This function determines whether the applied captioning options are what is defined in this function, or what the user has defined through the User Menu. If the Enseo Navy DVD player needs to apply a specific set of captioning mode details upon entering the power-on state, then select “No”. All subsequent functions defined in Captioning Options will be set to the applied captioning options upon entering the powered state. If specific changes made in the User Menu should be retained across power changes (standby, reboots, shutdowns, and power-on commands), then select “Yes”. Any functions defined under Captioning Options in the Setup Menu will not overwrite user-defined choices in the User Menu. Captioning The Captioning function determines the default option to present captioning modes on entering a power-on state. The three choices are “On”, which will display captioning when available, “On When Muted”, which will display captioning only when the volume function is muted, or “Off”, which will not display captioning even when it is available.

Note that this is not for sending the Enseo Navy DVD player to standby (Orange Status LED). For this the user must send a power toggle/standby command to the player via the remote or front panel pOwEr button.

“Auto” option is chosen (attempt to automatically establish code) without a certified TV being properly configured for control, it is possible to introduce the Enseo Navy DVD player to a state that will require Enseo support return to an operational status.
  • Page 16: Digital Captioning Mode

Digital Captioning Mode The Digital Captioning Mode function under the User Menu determines the digital captioning format to use when at- tempting to display digital captioning. The available options are CS 1, CS 2, CS 3, CS 4, CS 5, and CS 6. Most default digital captioning is displayed through CS 1. If there is question as to which mode was encoded, please consult the content generator facility for the proper captioning mode. Analog Captioning Mode The Analog Captioning Mode function under the User Menu determines the analog captioning format when attempt- ing to display analog captioning. The available options CC 1, CC 2, CC 3, CC 4, TXT 1, TXT 2, TXT 3, and TXT 4. Most default digital captioning is displayed through CC 1. If there is question as to which mode was encoded, please consult the content generator facility for the proper captioning mode. Captioning Options The Captioning Options under the User Menu leads to a submenu that allows the user to customize the displayed captioning information. The following functions capable of being defined for captioning options are: Use Custom Options, Size, Style, Text Color, and Background Color. Use Custom Options The Use Custom Options functions allows the user to choose whether to use the customizable values selected in Size, Style, Text Color, and Background Color, or to use the defaults for each of those functions. By selecting “Yes” for the Use Custom Options function, the user is opting to use the defined values, and by selecting “No” the user is opting to use the default values. Size The Size function allows the user to change the displayed captioning text size from the following options: Default, Small, Normal, and Large. Style The Style function allows the user to change the displayed captioning text style from the following options: Default, Style 1, Style 2, Style 3, Style 4, Style 5, Style 6, and Style 7. The default option leaves all displayed captioning at the default display values. The selectable styles apply variations of different font types and specifications (such as bold weight). Text Color The Text Color function allows the user to change the displayed captioning text color from the following options: Default, Black, White, Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Magenta, and Cyan. Note that certain combinations of text color and background color could make the displayed captioning hard to read.
  • Page 17: Sleep Timer

Sleep Timer The Sleep Timer function under the User Menu allows the user to set a defined countdown timer (in minutes) that puts the Enseo Navy DVD player in standby mode (orange Status LED) once reaching 0. The available times are: Off, 15 Min, 30 Min, 45 Min, 60 Min, 90 Min, 120 Min, 180 Min, and 240 Min. Note that the Enseo Navy DVD player does not support TV control and will not turn off any TV connected to it from the sleep timer function. Source The Source function under the User Menu allows the user to select a source from the Enseo Navy DVD player, or the television, were it applicable, to display on the television. However, all sources from the Enseo Navy DVD player are active at any given time, so the only available source, Tuner, is the output on all of the Enseo Navy DVD player sources. Picture Format The Picture Format function under the User Menu allows the user to select the picture format to optionally scale and present incoming source video. The following formats are supported for viewing on the Enseo Navy DVD player: Native, Widescreen, 4:3 expanded, and 16:9 expanded.
  • Page 18: Invalid Media

To replace the batteries in the Enseo Navy DVD player see Enseo’s Navy DVD/Navy STB battery replacement instruc- tions manual. NOTE THAT THE BATTERY REPLACEMENT MANUAL SHOULD BE FOLLOWED PRECISELY. A MISTAKE IN THE PROCEDURE CAN COMPROMISE THE SECURITY INTEgRITY OF THE PLAYER. Invalid Media The Invalid Media warning occurs when an improper configuration of media attempts playback from the Enseo Navy DVD player. Due to security specifications, only a specific format of media is playable by the Enseo Navy DVD player (generated automatically by the NMPS Media Encryption Station), and following that, the player is responsible for adhering to a specific set of criteria as far as encryption and licensing goes. Those criteria must be matched perfectly in order for media to be available for playback through the Enseo Navy DVD player. An invalid configuration will result in the Security LED illuminating red, and the inability to play back the media with a warning screen inserted over video indicating invalid media. To clear this issue, eject the DVD and insert a valid configuration of media. Reinserting the invalid configuration DVD will repeat the issue. In general, all valid configurations for media playback through the Enseo Navy DVD player will have content produced from operators of Enseo’s NMPS Media Encryption Station.
