PAGE 5 What is TENS? TENS, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, which stimulates nerves through the skin. It is recognized as a clinically proven, effective, non- medication method of treating pain from certain causes. It manages pain by stopping the pain gate to prevent pain signal transmission to the brain, and helps to release endorphin to sooth pain by stimulating nerves.
