Digital I/O
If a Modal Digital I/O Card is installed, the USB Digital Input and Output audio settings are
available in the main Settings page (sixth button below the LCD screen).
These are all global preferences, so they are saved between sessions.
1.
Bypass: if this parameter is On, the Digital Card is completely bypassed
2.
USB Audio In: this is a Gain parameter for the USB digital stereo input channel.
This works exactly in the same way as the analogue Audio-In in the 'Mixer' page, where
you have to set the 'Ext In' control to above 0 to allow the audio input to be triggered.
Please note that USB Audio-In will only work if no jacks are connected to the analogue
Audio In connectors.
3.
USB Sample Rate: it sets the audio sample rate of the digital audio stream over USB,
between 4 different options from 48 to 192kHz (more details in the next section)
4.
USB Audio Out Mode: this specifies how the host computer will see the Digital I/O
Card, as either stereo pairs channels 1-2 and 3-4 ('stereo' mode) or 8 separate mono
channels ('8 channel' mode) (more details in the next section)
5.
DSP Gain: if the Auto Gain algorithm is disabled, you can manually adjust the DSP Gain.
To find the optimal setting, please start from very low values, then play some notes /
chords and increase the value until you can hear clipping.
6.
Auto Gain: this enables an algorithm to prevent digital clipping. Please bear in mind
that the sum of the 8 008R's analogue voices outputs can be very hot and this can cause
problems in the input stage of the Digital Card's DSP: this is particulary true when using
Unison patches with a large Size value, or even just Poly patches with very long releases.
In order to prevent digital clipping, the Auto Gain algorithm applies a gain factor before
the signal enters the DSP, based on the current patch Drive and Osc Mix settings.

USB Audio Out Sample Rate and Mode
USB audio-out is available using 4 different sample rates, which each appear on the host
computer as separate USB devices/drivers.These are:
•
'48Legacy' (USB Audio Class 1, needed for Windows computers, at 48kHz), available as
either wet stereo pair output or dry stereo pair output
•
'48kHz' (USB Audio Class 2 at 48kHz), available as stereo pair output or 8 channel
outputs
•
'96kHz' (USB Audio Class 2 at 96kHz), available as stereo pair output or 8 channel
outputs
•
'192kHz' (USB Audio Class 2 at 192kHz), available as stereo pair output.
In 48/96kHz the host computer will always see 12 input channels, no matter whether the USB
Audio Out Mode is set to 'stereo' or '8 channel' mode, however only the first 8 are used on
008R. In 192Khz mode only 4 channels are shown.
If in 'stereo' mode the wet audio will come out of channels 1-2 and the dry audio will come
out of channels 3-4; if in '8 channel' mode each voice will come out of its own channel.
*IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINDOWS USER: if using a Windows operating system the 'USB
Sample Rate' on your 008R Settings must be set to '48Legacy'. Other sample rates will not
work with Windows OS, resulting in no audio device appearing.
