BATTERY CARE & CHARGING Your Francis-Barnett Electric Bicycle uses a Lithium battery for it's power and the following points will directly affect battery life and performance. Storage Batteries do not like to be stored in very hot or very cold conditions or to be subject to conditions of high moisture.

Using the Charger Two types of battery charger are used by Francis-Barnett. (Only one will be supplied). Both have a charge light which will display RED when charging and change to GREEN when the battery is charged. The alternative type charger also has a second light which shows RED when mains power is applied.

ELECTRIC BICYCLE FUNCTIONS Switching On To use under electric power, switch on at the power switch on the side of the battery, then press the MODE button on the handlebar LCD display. Control Buttons By means of the three buttons, MODE, UP and DOWN, on the handlebar mounted display unit, the various functions of the power controller and Cycle Computer can be utilised.

Battery Meter The LCD shows the charge remaining in the battery in the lower right of the display. The indicators will gradually go out as the battery power is used up. Refer to the table below for details. BATTERY METER DISPLAYS THE CHARGE REMAINING IN THE BATTERY SYMBOL CHARGE FLASHING...

Speed Display The top right large digits will normally display the current speed of the bicycle. For the UK market this is set to show miles per hour (MPH). The display is accurate to about 10% when the wheel size is correctly calibrated and the tyre inflated as per the manufacturers recommendations.

Pedal Assistance There are 5 levels of pedal assistance available from the motor. Using the UP and DOWN buttons you can select from Level 2 (ECO), to Level 6 (BOOST). The motor will then be activated upon pedalling. There is a rotation sensor located near the crank which senses when the pedals are being used.

No Assistance - Normal Pedal Bicycle If the assistance level is set to ZERO, then the motor will not be turned on. Your Francis-Barnett Electric Bicycle will now act and feel like a normal bicycle. This is useful when you are feeling fit at the start of a journey or using your bike for exercise purposes.

Programmable Functions As delivered the Francis-Barnett Electric range is set up to use straight away in the most popular configuration, but there are a number of functions which can be tailored to suit the individual rider. These are user set as per the following sections.

Backlight Contrast The backlight of the display can be set to one of three values. level 3 is the brightest, level 2 medium and level 1 is the lowest setting. Adjust to suit for night time riding. To change the level use the UP and DOWN buttons.

This menu is for setting the size of the wheel and tyre combination so that the speed display is accurate. The 26" x 1.75" tyres fitted to the Francis-Barnett Electric Bicycles as supplied require a setting of 26 in Replacement tyres rarely require a change of setting.

DEALER SETTINGS - DO NOT ADJUST BATTERY DISPLAY VOLTAGE If you see any of the screens shown on the right then you have inadvertantly entered a dealer configuration menu. You must not edit any of these settings as they will affect how your display shows battery levels, and changes may invalidate your warranty.

Resetting the Trip To reset the TRIP Distance and Trip Time at the start of a journey, ensure that either TRIP or TRIP TIME is showing on the display and simply press and hold the MODE (M) and DOWN (-) buttons simultaneously, and hold for 2 seconds.
STANDARD BICYCLE FUNCTIONS Gears The Francis-Barnett FBST Special Edition is provided with 8 speed Shimano Alfine gears. To change gear SQUEEZE to you use the right handlebar mounted gear change UP selector levers. Gear number 1 is low for hills and rough terrain and gear 8 is high for normal road use.

The front rack may be removed if required. Make sure that any items carried are securely strapped and nothing is able to get caught in the wheels. All other operation of your Francis-Barnett Electric bicycle is as per a normal pedal cycle.

Quick Release fittings for Seat Height Adjustment With the locking lever in the loose position, tighten the nut until finger tight. The final tightening is done by moving the lever to the locked position. To undo move the lever to the loose position to enable height adjustment.

MAINTAINANCE SCHEDULE Maintaining your bicycle ensures you’ll get the most out of every ride and out of the entire life of your Francis-Barnett Electric bicycle. How much of your bike’s maintenance you can do yourself will depend on your knowledge, skill, experience and whether you have the necessary tools for the job.
(or YEARLY if sooner) ● Hub motor and general inspection We recommend you arrange to have a thorough inspection of your bicycle by a Francis-Barnett Electric bicycle dealer. This includes opening up the hub motor to inspect and lubricate the gears. Tyre Pressures The tyres should be pumped up to within the range stated on the sidewall.

The Battery Pack contains Lithium and Special Consideration should be given to its safe disposal. Your Local Authority should have the necessary facilities in place. If you prefer you may take your original battery to BATRIBIKE for recycling.

Extended Battery Warranty Terms & Conditions A free upgrade to a 2 year battery warranty is offered for purchasers registering their Francis-Barnett Electric bicycle.
