The   i nitial   c onfiguration   o f   t he   m iDoor   o pener   i nvolves   c onfiguring   t he   n etwork   s ettings   a nd   s etting   u p   o ne   u ser   a ccount.     O ther  
options   s uch   a s   s etting   u p   a larms   o r   c onfigurable   I Os   a re   c overed   i n   t he   m iDoor   m anual.  
Configuring   T he   N etwork   S ettings  
When   t he   m iDoor   o pener   i s   i nitially   p owered-­‐up   i t   g oes   i nto   a   m ode   c alled   a dhoc   m ode.     T he   W i-­‐Fi   s tandard   ( 802.11)   d efines   t wo  
modes   o f   o peration:   i nfrastructure   m ode   a nd   a dhoc   m ode.     I nfrastructure   m ode   i s   t he   n ormal   o perational   m ode   o f   W i-­‐Fi   d evices.     I n  
this   m ode   a   W i-­‐Fi   d evice   m ust   c onnect   t o   a   W i-­‐Fi   r outer   o r   a ccess   p oint.     T he   W i-­‐Fi   r outer   o r   a ccess   p oint   p rocesses   s ecurity   s ettings  
and   p asses   t raffic   f rom   o ne   d evice   t o   a nother   d evice   o r,   i n   t he   c ase   o f   a   W i-­‐Fi   r outer,   o ut   t o   t he   I nternet.     I n   o rder   f or   a   d evice   t o  
attach   t o   a   W i-­‐Fi   r outer   o r   a ccess   p oint   t he   d evice   m ust   b e   p rogrammed   t o   m atch   t he   s ettings   o f   t he   W i-­‐Fi   r outer   o r   a ccess   p oint.    
These   s ettings   i nclude   t he   S SID,   e ncryption   m ethod   a nd   e ncryption   p asswords   o r   k eys.     O ther   i mportant   s ettings   i nclude   t he   I P  
address,   s ubnet   m ask,   d efault   g ateway,   a nd   D NS   s ettings.     T hese   l ater   s ettings   a re   n ot   a   p art   o f   t he   W i-­‐Fi   s tandard   b ut   a re   a n  
integral   p art   o f   t he   I nternet   s tandard   a nd   a re   r equired.  
In   a dhoc   m ode   a   W i-­‐Fi   d evice   c an   a ttach   d irectly   t o   a nother   W i-­‐Fi   d evice;   b ypassing   t he   n eed   f or   a   W i-­‐Fi   r outer   o r   a ccess   p oint.    
By   u sing   a dhoc   m ode   w hen   t he   m iDoor   o pener   i s   f irst   i nstalled   a nd   n ot   c onfigured   w ith   t he   r equired   s ettings,   a   u ser   c an   h ave   a   W i-­‐
Fi   e nabled   P C   o r   i Pad™   c onnect   d irectly   t o   a   m iDoor   o pener   a nd   c onfigure   t he   r equired   s ettings.  
Once   t he   m iDoor   o pener   i s   i nstalled,   p owered-­‐up   a nd   i n   a dhoc   m ode   i t   w ill   b roadcast   o ver   i ts   W i-­‐Fi   i nterface   a n   a dhoc   i dentifier   o f  
'miDoor'.     F rom   y our   c omputer's   o r   i Pad's   W i-­‐Fi   s ettings   e stablish   a   c onnection   t o   t he   m iDoor   o pener.  
To   e stablish   a n   a dhoc   c onnection   t o   t he   m iDoor   o pener   f rom   a n   i Pad   g o   t o   t he   " Settings"   a pplication   a nd   s elect   " Wi-­‐Fi".    
Under   " Choose   a   N etwork..."   l ocate   ' miDoor'   a nd   s elect   i t.     T he   i Pad   w ill   c onnect   d irectly   t o   t he   m iDoor   o pener   a nd   a   c heck  
mark   w ill   b e   p laced   n ext   t o   ' miDoor'.     T his   p rocedure   w ill   a lso   w ork   w ith   a n   i Phone™.
