  • Page 14: Anchoring

The anchor rode consists of 400’ of chain with about 20’ of nylon line at the “bitter end”. The nylon line is used in case of emergency to release the anchor by cutting the line. Lioness’ main anchor is a 110 lb ‘bruce’ style anchor.
  • Page 15 Start engines and warmup. The anchor windlass uses a great deal of electrical power, and requires the engines to be running. Briefly put in forward gear so windlass is only pulling in slack chain. Repeat as needed. Printed 7/2/2016 MV Lioness Owners Notes v2015.2 Page 15 of 36...

Swing the dinghy outward until it is parallel to the starboard side of Lioness. (Both launch and retrieval of the dinghy requires the bow to face the stern of Lioness.) Be careful not to hit the railing sides or upright. Make sure a crew member can hold the dinghy from banging the side of boat deck or hull as it is lowered.

It is important to manage the level of Lioness by burning fuel and drawing water to maintain an even distribution of fluids.
  • Page 21: Electrical Power

Shore power 1. Choose the proper power cord(s) and adapter. Lioness has a 50’- 30a/125v cord. The 50’-30a/125v cord is the most common and is stowed in the Portuguese Bridge on the starboard side in the cabinet forward of the wheel house.

9 amps at 115 volts requires almost 85 amps at 12 volts. The battery bank on Lioness gives 250 amp hours at 12 volts. This should provide the prudent person with more than enough reserve for at least a day without charging.

  • Page 26: Fuel Management

Neither fuel transfer or polishing should be operated by charterers. On Lioness, fuel is drawn from one tank and returned to the same tank. The exceptions would be when transferring fuel. With both engines running at approximately 2,000 rpm approximately 25 gallons per hour (GPH) is drawn from the tank and approximately 19 GPH is returned.
  • Page 27: Fuel Filters

We usually start by feeding from the port aft tank first (fuel as well as water) because Lioness fully loaded is slightly heavier on the port side. This extra weight comes from the galley, salon furniture, water heater and master furniture all mounted on the port side.

Galley Stove The Dickinson Range on Lioness is of the highest quality. This is one instance where there is little difference between the boat and your home. The fuel source for the range is propane. The propane tanks (2) are located under the bench seat on the flybridge.
